Ya, I had quite a bit of weight with the shell and decked system fully loaded.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe stage 2 for the rear if I go that route. I'm leaning more towards HD Dakar's

Fires? How’s about a gas leak in San Jose. It’s around Race and Park. PG&E says midnight before you’re cooking with gas again.

Towards the end my dakars started to flatten out, and squeeked for the years I had them. My deavers don't squeek. I like the multiple thinner leaves of deavers compared to the fewer thicker leaves of the dakars. Their not that much more money, and its worth it in my opinion. That said, I'm guessing you know all this and have run dakars as you have been at this a lot longer than I have.

This is the reason I'm asking around. I have only had the Dakar's but mine are the old version not the HD version. I have heard a lot of good things about deavers and wanted to ask the opinion of people that have a similar build to me. How is the ride with the deavers?

Plush. Never looking back. I read some article on the physics of using several skinnier leaves, compared to less thicker leaves, that really sold me on them and other higher end leaf packs from other companies. I'll see if I can find it.

Dakars do the job, but I'm seeing more and more people ditch them for flattening out (plus going nuts from the squeeking) and wishing they would've paid a bit more from the get go.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get the stage two. Just going to bite the bullet.

There is also Alcan? There is another "a" company too that I always confuse it with, one is comparable to Deavers and other sucks (what I've read). I read a lot good things about them back when I was researching leaf packs.

More recently I've seen good reviews of Icon RXT packs, but already had my Deavers so didn't look into them.

Stage 2 is probably about right for you. My vote is deaver over Dakar. I've had both.

@CalTacoma09 I can't find the in-depth article with all the figures, but here is copy and paste from a few articles on thinner leaves.

Leaf springs with a multitude of thin leaves are more expensive to produce, but thinner leaves are more flexible than thicker ones and move more freely. This means a spring with multiple thin leaves can have more arch, but still produce a nice ride. Extra arch not only provides some lift, but it also yields more bump travel. And, lots of thin leaves stacked on top of each other makes the spring a lot more progressive. This allows it to absorb both smaller hits and larger ones for a much better ride and control in the dirt.

What Are The Benefits Of Using Multiple Thinner Leaves Instead Of A Few Thick Leaves?
Deaver: High leaf counts of thinner material using quality high-carbon rate steel allows you to utilize that thinner material without compromise of sag or fatigue. In the simplest of terms, take 10 pieces of notebook paper and see how they can flex and move compared to four pieces of cardboard. The staggered leaf lengths allow us to get a much more progressive spring rate that increases as each leaf is engaged. This allows a smoother cycling of the suspension that doesn’t get the bucking reaction or rebounding.

comes down to this: try to bend a 1/2" thick leaf. its hard. it barely wants to bend. now you put it with 4-5 others that are even shorter, meaning much stiffer. and the bottom leafs of the spring hardly come in to play. it puts all of the strain on the first 1-2 leafs.

with a 10 leaf pack: try to bend a leaf that is 1/5" thick. its real soft. it will move very easily. now put it with 9 other shorter leafs. it doesnt mind moving. and those bottom leafs actually come into play. they carry a lot of the load. it becomes progressive. another advantage is that instead of having leafs with as much as 8" between leafs (graduation), our way puts around 3 inches, meaning less chance of breakage, bending, and sagging.

Not sure if I should say thanks since you guys talked me into spending more money. I think, I will be happier in the long run. I appreciate the info and the advice from people that have or had the product.

Cmon, it's really only a little bit more than you were already going to spend. You'll definitely be happier in the long run!

All pro? My ‘85 had a rear 10 leaf pack from all pro (circa 2006) they flexed like crazy. Terrible on holding weight though. I’m still a fan of the company but I don’t know their reputation anymore since trail gear bought them. I heard they kept the same leaf manufacture.

I think that was the other company I was confusing them with. Alcan is the good ones comparable to Deavers, and "all poo" as I see them referred to by others, is the not so good ones? Should say I've never had either, and this is just from my online reading.

Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
Since we are on the topic of leaf packs. Anyone have experience with Icon RXT? I also hear a few people liking this setup for heavy loads.

@EatSleepTacos runs them and has had favorable reviews. I already had my deavers when I heard about them, but one thing I really like about them is you can remove or add leaves if you change the weight you're carrying, just like with dakars. I can't do that with Deavers. The difference between the U402 Stage 1 and Stage 2 is not 1-2 leaves that I can add or remove.
