Tacoma Stalking, er...uh, Spotting, with Charlie™ (2nd Gen Edition)!

I have seen two 5-lug RCs in the wild that I believe to be SR5s, but this is the first confirmed RC SR5 I've ever seen in person; I spotted it in the spectator lot at the York Expo Center during the Good Guys Nationals last weekend...

This example is a 2007 model, and initially all I saw was a decent (though somewhat road-worn) blue RC 4x4; I glanced through the window, and happened to notice that it had a intermittent wipers. We all know that adding intermittent wipers to a 2nd Gen is one of the easiest mods, but I also realized this had a color-matched front bumper and chrome rear bumper...

Yup, it's an SR5! I saw a black 2010 RC SR5 Prerunner for sale in the TW marketplace a while back, and I seem to remember that example had cruise control; This one has intermittent wipers, but no cruise control...?

The truck looks to be in decent shape, but it's from Massachusetts and it shows; Just look how rusty the wheels are! Needless to say, the frame appears to have been sprayed rather than replaced (or replaced at some point and then sprayed when it started to show signs of rust yet again)...

The fender flares are also a strong hint that it's a factory SR5...

 

This truck is stock, so stock that it still has the shitty basic pre-2009 stereo with a CD player but no iPod hookup; I seriously believe that the stereo used from 2005 to 2008 was a downgrade from what was used in 2001-2004 models. At least the stereos in the later 1st Gens had a CD player and a cassette player! A friend of mine (@Gwyns04) has an '04 SR5 TRD Off-Road with an aftermarket JVC double-DIN CD player (Bluetooth, AUX, USB, etc), but still the original speakers; The factory speakers in that truck sound great for what they are, and in fact sound better now than the shitty factory speakers in my truck sounded when my truck was brand new!

Being a 2007, this model also does not have the factory backup camera (that didn't become an option until 2009)...

 

I think the 2nd gen SR5 RC is rare. I've seen 1, 6 lug that I can recall. The SR5 RC might have still had crank windows.

 

In addition to the rust on the wheels, this truck also has rust on the back bumper; Despite this, the truck appears to be in pretty solid condition for a vehicle that has likely spent its entire life in New England, and the body seems solid!

 

No 2nd Gen RC ever had power windows; The 2010 I saw on marketplace did have a factory backup camera...

 

Oh, and I forgot to mention...

This one's a 5-speed! It's a 2007, so I'm guessing based on the age and current condition, it has at least 150K miles; I could be wrong though, as I've seen Tacomas in much worse condition than this with surprisingly low miles, and Tacomas in similar or even better condition than this one with insanely high miles...

The highest mileage 2nd Gen I've ever taken pictures of was a white 2008 AC SR5 V6 with over 400K miles (in May 2021) and it looked better than this blue one!

 

On another note, I'm pretty sure that the black 2010 RC Prerunner I saw on TW marketplace had factory foglights; This example does not have foglights...

 

And Carfax reports are expensive; I'm down to my last one for now and I need to be able to get vehicle years, so I didn't actually "run" the report on this truck, which is why I don't know the mileage right now...

 

A 5 lug regular cab SR5 was never made.

 

So, the 5-lug RCs I've seen with colored front bumpers, chrome grills, and chrome rear bumpers were basically homemade...?

 

Correct, or it was actually a 6 lug you saw. But access cabs were made in 5 lug with SR5 package.

 

It was definitely a 5-lug, both the white one I saw back in like 2010 and the red one I saw earlier this year...

SR5 are the norm nowadays. Back then they were rare and exotic but in these days the SR5 are the bare bones. Regular cabs can be had with any configuration minus the TRD trims, not rare at all.

 

Here's a nice 2nd gen single cab SR5 for sale, 6 lug, 5 speed, Sac, CA. Don't think I've ever seen a 2nd gen single cab 5 lug SR5.
I have seen a couple of 1st gen 5 lug single cab SR5 package, those are fairly rare....

Beautiful truck and from California is a plus for the frame, but he’s asking more for that truck than the sticker price on mine when it was new!

 

Yes, that's the market right now for these trucks. I found my daughter's BF a super clean/orig 2014 extended cab V6 4WD Tacoma, 70k miles, one owner for $22.5k back in Jan. He could sell that truck for $5k more right now, easy....
