Would be interesting to see a true apples to apples comparison on the dyno. Aka the only change is replacing the stock solenoids with these new ones, and nothing else.

I wouldn't mind obtaining a before baseline test once again prior to the solenoids, with that being said, Dyno baselines are expensive and cost a significant amount just to test one change to the engine. These tests are coming out of my pocket, and if you want me to do that, I only ask that you contribute donations to the Dyno fund. Lol.

I'm partially joking, but I'm also not joking.

If you guys want a true before and after, just solenoids alone test, I can do it, but all I ask is you throw down some to contribute to the "before baseline."

As of current, the way the truck is with the solenoids in, I am projecting 335-340 HP at the wheels if they give the 11 HP additional they say they do. Without them in I project 325-330 HP.

I'd be willing to throw in $20 towards a control dyno run if we want to TW crowdsource this.

Also, please put me on the list - if it gets 10 ft-lbs for $300 and a beer's worth of wrenching I'm in.

You folks have been added. :)

I appreciate the offer Muddy. Before next Thursday I will establish a mini "GoFundMe" either via PayPal or gofundme itself for the before baseline. This is costing various folks their time and money so any contribution from the guys here big or small helps a ton. No one here pulls their weight alone anymore and since we have broken new grounds in the performance category of the 1GR engine over the course of the last 5 or so years this is just another part of that equation.

Has anyone watching this thread experienced VVT-i related issues? Similar to what @12TRDTacoma described in the first post? If different symptoms, what do they feel like?

Stumbling at off the line take off or what could be described as hesitation. Somewhere during cruise around town what could be labeled as a stutter while driving at slower speeds. There have been a few members in the blower thread that have described similar issues as well and they could never figure out what it was not could Justin identify the cause of it on HPTuners, so we all just settled for a BS drivability issue all this time.

I must say, after my drive this morning it's nice to be able to drive the truck less "hooligan-like" just to keep those issues tamed down and the pull during mid band ranges feels a lot nicer now too, so this would be a double whammy in my book.

@SUMOTNK reminded me of the old hype days when the Honda boys would replace their V-TEC's and modify them with performance ones and to kick in sooner. This is basically the same thing because this has the same function as a V-TEC solenoid. I forgot all about those days but it's the closest applicable thing to this situation.

Yes I've heard about that VTec mod to have it kick in sooner... I like the idea of this for our trucks from the performance/enjoyment standpoint which I think you've presented well. The thing that would make me 100% commit (so I don't have to be one of those "flakes" who backs out) is if it's proven to alleviate issues related to VVT-i. Less hesitation, more responsive, better cold starts. I also wonder if this upgrade would really shine with the Kelford cams that I installed. Anyways short story long, I will have to sleep on it at least once before I commit.

Can anyone else comment on what kind of VVT-i issues they've experienced? It doesn't sound like a majority of people have issues but I could be wrong.

Well for those experiencing issues without codes who finally figure out what it is, a simple set of OE solenoids would alleviate those issues, but Toyota is not known to make quality VVT solenoids. I can't tell you the amount of them I have replaced over the years particularly on their V6 platforms. For the price you pay for a new pair you might as well swing for these since they would be similarly priced.

As for the issues, maybe some others could chime in. You may want to pose the question on the blower thread as well, because I've asked before and a few have chimed in but I can't remember who they are.

I only posted about it multiple times over on the blower thread bro. No excuses Rob. :boink::D
