Anyone else have this issue? While installing my awning I discovered a few extrusions that seem to be misaligned. I was still able to slide the piece in from the other side.

That's not good at all. I would call SP post haste.

It's a problem, a big drawback IMO. I think attaching a strap to the inside edge rather than the outside handle is a better plan. That way you can tuck it in and hide it when you get close to closing the top. I have been meaning to look inside the edge and see if there's an easy way to do it.

Dog leash is a great idea for the strap material though. No shortage of options there.

Actually, it's a license plate camera that I had already purchased, and it turns out it's not a good choice. I do think a camera is better up there, as it was pretty low on the license plate area, and it was be partially obscured by my bike rack. But this camera has built-in "parking guidance lines" that you can't turn off, and that aren't helpful from that angle. I can live with it, but it would be better if I had just a straight camera up there.

Installation details: I cut license plate part off and just kept an L-shaped portion holding the camera that I figured I could fit behind the 3rd brake light. I had to peel the light off (after trying to pull it off and not having a thin knife to cut the tape, I used an old guitar string to cut through the tape). It took quite a lot of work to remove the old tape, and I used a variety of adhesive removers, including one that melted a paper towel into the red lens, which I never fully cleaned off. So be careful. Then I had cut a groove into the round wire channel at the rear of the light to accommodate my camera wire. Then I taped the whole thing back on and wired it up.

I ordered them from SP before I picked up my camper, so yes call them.

Can you tell me how you attached the awning to the brackets? I just got mine and no instructions, but plenty of bolts and brackets. Did you just use the short bolts that came with the awning? Thanks.

I indeed used short bolts, they slide into the awning rails, washer and lock nut the other side. Hope picture helps.

I have the awning flush with the top of the brackets. Looks good and side door of SP doesn’t come in contact with awning. I have a traditional awning from CVT. Most tradition awnings work the same way. If you have 270 or other platforms of awnings it maybe be different.

So you just used 2 bolts on each bracket, right? Not 4 each side? I guess that would be overkill.

I did not. Maybe next time when I'm at the hardware store, ill grab a few more of the same size. but my awning isnt too heavy. It'll do for now, check on those lock nuts every so often will be fine. Indeed over kill though.

I thought about the idea of using wingnuts and have awning brackets on both sides and i can swap driver and passenger quickly if needed too. I shall see if thats needed after couple trips

That’s interesting. I thought of carrying a larger awning on the side and then putting it on the back when stopped, for more room than the 55 inch will provide. Wingnuts is a great idea.

So who else has a problem with the clamps coming loose all the time? On the trip home they came loose. I tightened them up and added loctite. It happened again so i tightened them back up again. It happened again the other day. These are just standard bumpy trails nothing crazy. I did try flipping the bracket around like Spencer explained but the longer bolts dont fit yet so the seal hasnt compressed enough for that to happen? Anyone else experience this?

if you look at where it mounts I bet $100 it’s bent. It’s a thin aluminum and it’s not mounted flush (bolt) so it allows it to bend creating room. Tightening just makes it worse. I have already provided them feedback on this. They noted they were looking into better mounting but the current setup def is not heavy trail tested. Or it is and it’s not doing very well.

For a plug and play brake light solution @Puppypunter is who to contact. Our campers have a running light option and this harness allows you to wire it up that way if you choose.

I just used what my awning had so 2 per mount. I did get a third one but so far haven’t added it.
