Hey guys! First time posting in here, purchased my first home at the beginning of the summer. Been doing TLC. Painted pretty much the entire interior of the house. Now the doors, I'm getting ready to take off and borrow a friend's paint sprayer to repaint them as evenly as I can. They're standard hollow-core six-panel interior doors. Not a lot of sound deadening qualities about them. Last night I got to thinking if it would be possible to insulate them somehow. My question is this:

Could I drill a hole in the top of the doors and fill them up with an effective sound-deadening foam? Has anyone done this before? What would be the type of product to use?

    Thanks!

Not a bad idea but there may be baffles/cross pieces/etc that will not allow a full fill.
Can you tell by pressing/rapping with knuckle?

    Door might bulge..............

    Hollow and six panel?? Cornfuzed.

There’s usually a honeycomb reinforcement in the middle of the door between the face layers, so that likely won’t work unfortunately.

Yeah I'm starting to see that. Bummer. I'm ballin' on a budget otherwise I'd spring for solid wood doors. Maybe I drill multiple holes, starting from the bottom and work my way around.

Even if you use the expanding foam for window and door insulation you're likely to blow out the panels. Plus it's not going to sound deaden as much as you think. Just paint them for now and save for solid core doors if you really want them. I've been looking at doing something with one or two of these...

That's been a dream of mine since I was a kid. Hidden rooms all secret agent like. I'd like to build a panic room into the basement when I build a house with a door like that, or reinforced. It'll double as a gun safe and security system hub.

I mean, one door already has a dent. I could experiment on that one. If it doesn't work or if it blows up... Welp.

Got my new shower glass installed today. Delta is (delayed) delivering 3 pieces of plumbing today, maybe I'll have a functional bathroom by Sunday? :fingerscrossed: Pics of crystal clear glass aren't much fun but here goes

What made you decide to put the controls on the wall opposite the shower head? I typically reach in and turn it on to warm up before I hop in, so having it on the side with the door would've been more ideal to me.

Good eye, what isn't shown here is the ceiling above the controls has a rainshower head that's not yet installed. I wanted it on the opposite wall as well simply because that's where it's hinged. But this isn't my forever home so the framing (including a shear wall) work & add'l plumbing runs made me say "good nuff" on the current placement lol. Also, I can select between the 2 heads so it's not like we'll get soaked when turning it on.

Had insulation blown over the garage area since the home builder doesnt do it on the garage. Well see the difference in there heat wise while im working on stuff. also prob will help out the house temp inside.
The guy said it was supposed to be R19 they were supposed to put down. I told him I wanted R30. He was a nice guy and did R30, i tipped him well.

What has happened to the skilled labor industry? I take pride in doing as much as I can at home and in the garage, but sometimes you have to bring in a professional. The problem that always plagues me when that happens is getting them to actually show up. I've had the same problem now with electricians and plumbers, call and set up an appointment with them to come do a job, then when the day and time comes... they're nowhere to be found. Everyone must be rich to just blow off jobs
