My 7 year old daughter always busts our balls when we go on bike rides for the wife and I not wearing helmets. But we're generally riding on the bike path with her, so the answer always is we're adults, and adults can make bad decisions if they want to.

Same here! But they also see me wear my helmet if I'm actually going for a ride in the woods so hopefully they realize it's not all hypocrisy...

Lol. 15ish years ago, when I was teaching the kids to ski I bought, and made them wear helmets.
One day they asked me why I wasn't wearing a helmet if they had to.

Walked into the ski shop and bought a helmet.
    It wasn't a turrible question.

That's what I do. Woods where I could make a wrong move and wreck? Absolutely! Roads where I'm going at a decent pace (maybe 30+ down some hills)? Yes. A paved rail trail that's flat and has no obstacles? No.

Always easier to pick on the smaller group, and this is how legal precedent can be set.

Because GM can do no wrong in many eyes, of course

I think you hit the nail on the head there, they`re setting a precedent which can be dangerous in legal terms.

I'm guessing most of us remember the PMRC in the 1980s. Ever wonder why they didn't drag the likes of Prince or Ozzy Osbourne through court, yet did it to Dead Kennedys?

They tried Dee Snider and his demeanor in his hearing was incredible!

Nah, Dee testified at the hearing..he wasn't on trial.

Dead Kennedys were prosecuted criminally for the content of one particular album; mostly an insert in the album jacket. Tipper Gore famously said when asked "I'd like to take credit for it"

Point is that they deliberately picked a small name who would probably be crushed in the process..in order to set precedent, AKA a "test case"

Hopefully some rich hipster lawyer has one with money and time to burn and will dig in his heels and fight it. I'm sort of surprised there hasn't been any real reason as to why they revoked the registrations of those cars. Are old classics next on the chopping block? That group won't go down quietly now, but as Gen X and Y age out, I fear the people who want to own those old classics will unfortunately start to age out as well and, at that point, they might be able to do the same thing...

I'm just leaving this here for no reason in particular at all for who might be pushing to remove old cars from the road.

Several years ago, they attempted to change the taxes on classics. That got shot down.
But what about the next time?

I'm paying taxes for the book value of a 50 year old car rather than "today's market value" .

Yeah - I had a coworker who had an old Pontiac. In RI, they charge taxes based on NADA CLEAN value, no matter what. So if you can find a clean 1960s pontiac convertible it's like 80 grand. His car is worth 4-5 at the most. In providence, taxes were 60$/1k in value, and a 5k exemption I BELIEVE. It may have been a 2k - 3k, I can't remember anymore, it's been a while.

So instead of paying 60-120 a year in taxes, they would have been charging him 4500 a year in taxes. Just to have the car. RI's MV taxes are stoopid. He left it registered to his parents in NH.

Meh, I would rock a plug in. Work is 5 miles away, I could get to and from work on a charge easy, but then also have the ability to drive without a range limit.
