Any Long Term Reviews/Thoughts - Side Steps

I'm having a hard time deciding on which side steps to get for my truck. My main concern would be their longevity with New England winters a major factor. Snow/ice and road treatments are impossible to avoid around here.

I'm considering either N-Fab Podium or Havoc HS2. Both are powder coated stainless steel. I've also thought about oem predator steps(aluminum,) but I prefer the more tubular look of the other two.

Just curious as to how everybody's steps have been holding up through the years. Any thoughts on the ones I mentioned or any other type I should be considering would be appreciated.

 

N-Fab is what I have, Opinions vary obviously. I’m happy with mine though,
going on four years now.

 

Predators get banged up/ bent which is a drawback. I have the OE stainless rounded end (not the rubber/plastic plugged ones). No regurts… look like the day I bought them. There is a black version too, which I do not know the material.

 

I was happy with Nfab steps until I went on a trail in Big Bear and the drivers side step got hung up on a rock and ripped right my off my truck. Now have RCI sliders after a fairly expensive repair lesson. If this is something you never have to worry about, then they serve their purpose fine and look cool to boot.

 

If you are worried about winter havoc / ice-snow-salt-etc ... just move.

OEM boards are the best for rust/winter areas. They block the snow and ice from coming up onto the body, and they are mostly plastic so they don't rust like the tube metal style.



I work at a Toyota in a rust area and I can attest to these in winter time.

 

Have the same ones. +1 for oem running boards

 

Here’s my $0.02. I’ve had three sets so far, first made from solid aluminum, second made of steel, now plastic and some metal I don’t know. No matter what material or how much powder coat was applied, rust always seem to get on them. Not a lot, at the corners and the weld point only.

 

+2, the kids love them and they help stop door dings from idiots in parking lots.

 

So are the oem running boards functional as steps? I had some Go Rhino ones on my last truck and I used them. But I noticed some people would be trying to step over them rather than on them. Maybe because they didn't look like steps? Don't really know.

 

Treat your frame rails before putting sliders on. The water salt sand etc gets between and rusts the frame.

 

Look into greenlane off-road. They make all aluminum side steps/ rock sliders. I have the rock sliders and love them. They are pricey though being aluminum. I had the same worry about winter salt, I didn't want my rock sliders to rust off after the first winter. They seem to be coating the roads with more and more salt every year.

 

I'm not very tall, I don't really need them as steps. I guess it depends on how tall you are and if you need them to get in/out of the truck. I normally use them when I need to clean the roof of the truck.

But they look like steps and they function as steps.

I moreso liked the look of them. I also got them for 80 bucks.

One of the complaints I saw, people kept rubbing thier pants on the steps getting thier pants dirty. Ive never had a problem with that.

 

I like my Nfab Epyx, good price, clean look. I don't off road so not a problem there, but does help me get in and out easier, hip issues...wish the truck had a driver side grab handle like my Tundra...it's hell gettin old...so I hear...

 

Yes they are functional. I mostly step in and out without using them. But my kids use them all the time. I do use them when washing the truck, cleaning the windshield etc. they are very strong and useful.

 

Excited to get mine in! Got the full top plate ones with 12.5deg rise. I have RCI aluminum skids and wanted to go with aluminum sliders to keep the weight off the truck the best I could.

I don't wheel aggressively, these are "just in case"

 

Going with rci as well when I get full skids, really like the greenlane off road sliders. Quality is awesome and the angle is perfect for ground clearance and functionality for a side step. You won't be disappointed!
