The red in trans fluid is simply a dye for identification between motor oils , gear oils, antifreeze but I am positive you know that .With enough cycles , even the red dye breaks down to a light- ish brown not brown ..Did I say brown . sorry .That being said , if you are replacing every 30k , you are following Aisn Seiki,s fluid interchange guideline by the book . Transmission fluid has 11 duties and every single duty is important for proper transmission function . As far as what the reagents are measuring or how to identify what is actually breaking down if I understand what you are asking , I think that would be better answered with a sample sent off to Blackstone for analyzation . https://www.blackstone-labs.com/engine-types/transmission/

Pulling the 16-bolt trans pan seems excessive to me. I've had three Toyota autotrans flushed by the dealer, full flush @ apx 100k miles and no problems afterwards. Service writer didn't blink when I asked for it, been there done that kind of thing. $350 and most of that is 13q of WS. Dealer I trust walked through all three in three hours drawing old WS out from the aux trans cooler and pumping in fresh WS.

The big deal these days is Toyota deleted the aux trans cooler from the Tacoma, Tundra and Sequoia. That's just plain stupid to remove a long-time proven system to gain nothing but a few dollars.

That sucks. I can't imagine it would need a flush. I do a D&F every year, just to keep the fluid fresh. cost all of $30.

    Update on the issue:

Last night I got in the truck to go for a drive, put it in reverse and the Transmission made a big clunk, and now it clanks in drive. I had it towed to the dealership that did the flush today and I met the service manager there to go over what I found. Turns out, they've had a few issues with some new techs that aren't doing their job correctly and this is one of those cases. They never checked the fluid level after flush and it was indeed low. Manager said they think it broke a mount and their going to tear the transmission down tomorrow. They're going to repair the transmission for free and credit me for the previous flush and tsb I had done.

Not all dealerships are a headache, you just have to know how to talk to the people.

Complete tear down and rebuild? I doubt that.
I think a new or remanufactured transmission is what you should and will end up with.

They're going to rebuild it in the morning. Service managers calling me in to watch the whole thing since we have trust issues lol.

You can’t rebuild a tranny in a morning. They are going to pull the pan then do the flush properly and send you on your way. You should be asking for an extended warranty on the tranny.

That’s good they are taking care of it.

I am surprised they said rebuild. I doubt there are many techs out there any more that can fully rebuild a trans, clutch packs and all. Too labor intensive.

    Demand a new 2022 Tundra.

Oh okay I guess me being there to watch the rebuild is just me going to watch them flush it again? Did you even read the updated post I just made? C'mon...

It is a bit hard to believe that they are going to rebuild a transmission on a Saturday morning. I'm due for a service next week. I am definitely heading to Estabrook. I'm not saying Estabrook is immune to shotty employees, but J Allen has got me suspicious here lately.

There is no way they'd be able to rebuild your transmission in the morning let alone a full day. you mentioned the manager said they think it broke a mount, well the mount would be external. It's what mounts the tranny to the frame and would cause it to jump when put in gear causing the u-joints to clunk. How they broke a mount is beyond me. I've been wrenching on cars for 40 years and I'm sorry but no way in hell it's going to be pulled, rebuilt and replaced tomorrow morning. As mentioned by someone else those techs do not have the training to rebuild it anyway, it would be replaced if anything. Let us know please

Rebuilding a tranny is as complicated as rebuilding a motor. C’mon man. It takes several DAYS to rebuild a tranny.

I'm not sure why you want to argue if they can or can't rebuild it. From what I've been told, the service manager can rebuild it. I'm going to be there when he tears it down to inspect the damage. Not sure why that's hard to believe?

Lol you guys are entertaining. I'm not going to literally sit there the entire 24hrs while they rebuild.. I'm just going to pop in and see what's damaged after he tears it down.
