I attempted pretty much this same setup, but went with a Haulmark 12ft TA Harley Hauler (short height to help with wind resistance). Did a trial tow with it loaded floor to ceiling and there was no way in hell I was going to deal with that from GA to AZ. Trying to get on interstate was dangerous…and driving with it felt dangerous. Have Icon RXT’s and had tow controller, camper shell and tent on truck. I’ve towed a lot of boats and other random stuff. No pro, but not a novice either. Sold it for a profit and towed the truck behind a uhaul. LOL

Do a trial run with guesstimated weight before move day…

Huh, I wonder if it was unbalanced? I've towed a 6x12 uhaul trailer behind the truck plenty of times and never felt like it was dangerous or sketchy. I'll definitely be doing a test run with some equipment from work in the big trailer. Felt great towing it home though which was all uphill into the mountains up an interstate. Granted it's empty but it's still a big wind sail.

I loaded it properly, and it was planted but the truck did not like accelerating or even cruising with that much weight.

This was at the girlfriend’s parents’ house earlier today; She still has a bad foot, so she needs a scooter to get around car shows. Luckily, her mom is disabled and the family has a mobility scooter; I wish I’d know this last weekend when I dropped eighty bucks to rent a scooter for her at the Good Guys show in York last weekend…

    :annoyed:

Anyway, Rose’s parents let me use their heavy-duty hitch-hauler (higher capacity than my dad’s), and I dropped by today for a basic test fit…

Their hitch hauler fit my receiver perfectly, and the 400-pound scooter was chump change for my truck; Keep in that the last time I used a hitch-hauler was last October, before I got the lift kit…

I want one of those to haul a little TW200 out into the woods for camping. Set up the truck and campsite and mob around the trails on a little bike? Sounds like a blast!

So my girlfriend’s dad and I basically made my truck ADA compliant, but getting the scooter loaded wasn’t the problem; The problem was with the scooter itself…

We also thought scooter was still broken because all the accessories worked while the scooter itself wouldn’t move; Turns out that the scooter has a built-in failsafe to keep it from being ridden while the battery charger plugged in!

Anyway, here is the scooter secured to the back of my truck after I safely got it home and added some more bungee cords for added security…

Please use more than bungees to secure that. One swerve and that thing is passing you in the next lane before taking someone else out. Harbor Freight has lashing straps that are 100 times better for $10-15.

It actually had no issues, but I hope I never have to haul a mobility scooter behind my truck ever again; The damn thing blocked my backup camera!

You got lucky. You had no issues this time, but those bungees will not hold that weight in an accident avoidance move, or god forbid a real accident.

I’ve never hauled a scooter before; Girlfriend’s dad said bungee cords were fine when he helped me load the thing so you might wanna tell him that…

Next time I will use ratchet straps…

Yep I was gonna comment and say the same thing. Bungie cords will hold the scooter but not in the case of an accident or sharp turn etc. that’s a big liability. Use a couple of ratchet straps for sure.

also you seem to be hauling a lot of stuff from your work. Hopefully you’re being compensated for that

Four mile round trip between two locations, and it's all relatively lightweight recycling; Truck doesn't break a sweat!

When I was hauling booze for the bar I used to work at, I did get compensated, but it wasn't monetarily...
