king, 2.5 lift, it happened right after i got a body mount relocation mount and now have 35's but did it before the new tires.. is it a coincidence it happens right after the relocate kit or just happened and i didnt notice the clunkyness when slowing down or going over bumps, they said its a safety thing so i need to get it fixed right away.

Curious as to the outcome of this mine looks like this too is it a hazard? My truck is a salvage title from front end damage but it drives fine no clunking etc.

I would ask them how they think the lift caused this. I bet 100$ they cant give you a solid answer on that.

keeps the column from moving i guess i can feel it in the steering wheel so it deff needs to be replaced i guess it keeps everything together and its part of the collision safety thing i dont know much about it all, all i know is i need a new one and want to prevent it from happening again, seems like no one has had this problem.

Start by having them explain how your lift caused this issue. There is no way in any world a lift can cause a part of the steering column inside the truck to fall off. You are being played by the dealer here.

There isn't anything in the service manual about tearing down the column, so I suspect Toyota would just replace the entire thing as they said.
You might have to take it to a specialist.

Below is a photo of mine. It appears to be a pressure fit ring. Yours might have some of the fingers broken off?

ok, so if you want to fix it yourself here is how. Get a big thick zip tie. Put it around the shaft and tighten it, but no too tight that it doesnt move. Now slide the zip tie up so its pushing the ring back in place. You can then use a flat head screw driver to press the zip tie and it will force the "fingers" of the clip back into the groove.

its hard to beleive that the lil clip keeps the steering wheel from shaking when braking and going over bumps, its like nothing

As long as it won't interfere with anything push it back up to where it goes and put a hose clamp under it to hold it in place. They can be unscrewed, wrapped around, and screwed back together.

you can't push it back up there? its not easy but heres bow I did. pull the shaft all the way down and it hold it. push the ring up as far as you can with your hands then with a wrench start tampering it in. it will in with some effort.

if you pull the shaft all the way down you should be able to see a groove. the groove must be below the sleeve.
