My wife's car got hit last week. She forgot to lock it and thieves can see that the mirrors weren't folded in therefore the car is unlocked (2021 Telluride) Neighbor's Ring picked up a hood rat walking by in the wee hours. My 100lb Rhodesian Ridgeback didn't hear a thing. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood but these shitheads are never far and like some previous posters said, that's where these losers come "shopping". Easy pickin's. Just drive around looking for mirrors and boom! I set a nightly reminder on our Alexa reminding us to lock car doors every night at 9:00. Whatever it takes. Sorry your personal property was violated. Shitty feeling and I hope lesson learned. Wish there was an auto lock setting when walking away from the car/truck (like my Mazda3 had) or at a certain time each night. I'm installing a ring flood light because my doorbell didn't capture anything. Also; this happens so often that the cops are helpless to do anything. I would still report it since they got ur ID and in case someone catches them, they could pin it back to them. Get quality wheel locks if you think they'll come back but my buddy's wife had wheels jacked of her brand new Accord right in their driveway. Won't completely stop them but it may slow them down.

Indeed. I have used several, from driveway alarms to things I have built myself. My electrician buddy and I setup my place in the mtns, with an array of stuff.

I eventually had to go with the, out of sight out of mind technique. Building a king kong gate!

Best move I ever made was to pick up a laserjet all-in-one. Expensive and a huge eyesore, sure. But I'm currently on the 2nd year of ownership, the cartridge is still 2/3 full and has no threat of drying out or locking itself from some made up expiration date.

    :bananadance:

Edit: also, I keep my truck in the freaking garage at night. Yeah it sucks not having a man cave to watch un-air-conditioned ESPN on the old TV I couldn't throw away after upgrading the living room to the 70" 4K, but at least tweakers aren't putting their greasy sweat stained mitts on my doorhandles either.

I don't blame the OP. But sounds like person probably been casing the neighborhood for some time. Been checking OP truck for months and OP just did not know.

Scariest thing when your wife says someone in your truck and driving off in it. Nothing like running outside with the 45 and truck is still there. Turns out the wife was looking at DVR footage from camera and not live feed.

I hope someone in the neighborhood has cams to catch the creeps.

Had my government vehicle broken into. They smashed the drivers side window. All I had in there was a laptop charger which they took (crack/meth heads).

Printer cartridges aren’t cheap. But someone’s used electric razor, not gonna be a high dollar item.

Nice neighborhoods are the easier targets. You don’t hit them up night after night, rather this one, that one etc. where I live it’s all nice neighborhoods. People are so naive around here though. It took a lot to convince my ex to lock her doors, I’ll bet she still doesn’t. But one day she told me she thinks someone was digging around in her car, and the kids bikes were stolen off the front lawn. That’s why we have a 2 car garage, which is easier than a police report.

You are OCD, you did not lock your truck and you left envelope full of cash in it ?

    Really… (fishing story)

PS, lug nuts locks only slowdown the theft for a minute or so.

Locked doors slow them down even less....

If you're wheels aren't safe, nothing else is either.

I'm blessed that I have a garage, and garage door opener.

Tiny little single car garage that I can't fully open my doors, but just enough to get in & out. Including trailer hitch, there is just enough room for the door to close. Alarm is set, and the keys are stored in a Faraday bag.

    Fort Knox!

The ears can hear a pin drop a mile away at my place. He is one of the many "first" alerts I count on along with some motion sensors that will go off. From there him and I will go out together to assess the situation. GSD are hard wired to feed off your energy.... if I grab a gun and start moving fast with intent he goes into go mode instantly. A good dog for protection not only protects you, but needs your backup for protection. Just my thoughts. 20210716_185353.jpg

Will they come back for the tires, probably not. But they will come back because you were a great score, especially the cash.

Start locking your truck and put motion sensor lights on your property. Better yet add some cameras to the lights, a single Ring camera is under $100

    Dumbest thread ever.
My advise? Simple. Don't leave your truck unlocked with cash in it.
Maybe pin a note to your shirt so you don't forget.
