That's the way it all works now, I think it's all about having a marketable brand to work with instead of building out a real system that produces better sound. Throwing Apple and Android into the mix has just made the problems bigger and the sound worse.

So I was/am having the same issue. When I have a 2021 TRD pro and the audio is A LOT quieter when I use Bluetooth or CarPlay. I switched it to SXM radio and the sound was great. I have the sound check off on my
Phone so I’m not sure how to fix it but it sounded great and normal with the radio on

Well I closed out all of my apps on my iPhone and opened up Spotify again and the sound was great. I’m assuming some other app was trying to use some of the volume, no clue but I just know it worked

After 3 months of ownership I may just be getting use to it. Some days I feel like it sounds really good and some days… trash haha

I agree. Some days level 48 is loud other days its so quiet. I don't understand why.

Not sure why I'm adding my 2 cents, but here goes. A lot of branded audio systems in new cars are just licensed names for the OEM to stamp on a crappy product, and add perceived value to the consumer. With all these complaints you guys have, surely Toyota just paid some licensing fees to JBL to use their name and trademark.

I've been out of the car audio upgrade scene since cars went away from the standard sized single DIN and double DIN(late 90's-early00's?) to making the head unit integrated in the dashboard. So my knowledge is before that. But I don't remember JBL being a "premium" brand of audio back then, nor today. I think it is just a gimmick to make it sound like the experts set the sound stage.

This is what makes people hate any system. I have the same JBL system that I run with a Samsung Galaxy S21. My radio, android auto, usb all in the same volume range. 20-25 windows closed is great, 30-35 freeway with window and sunroof open sounds great. But whenever I tried Bluetooth, I could not here it until it got up to 45-50.

I have the same problem! Our 2016 off-road with the tech/premium package and JBL will vibrate the rear view mirror so much you can’t use it. Just purchased a 22 Pro with the JBL and it’s a complete disappointment! Low volume, no mid bass and just boring. We couldn’t believe the difference in the two systems! You would think that a newer truck would have the largest and greatest?! Not always…

So the volume on this has multiple settings depending on what source you are listening to.

I listen mostly to Apple Music via CarPlay with my phone hardwired. Adjusting the phone volume doesn’t do anything in this mode.

If I unplug so that now I’m connected via Bluetooth then the volume of the phone impacts the volume of the music. So the JBL radio volume can be at 60+ and if my phone volume is turned down you can barely hear it.

Then there is the weird functionality of the volume being able to be different levels depending on the source selected. So you can have hardwired phone at 40 and change to another source and it’ll be at 10.

All in all not impressed with the stereo, but I’ll learn to live it for another year or so, until I order a new Tundra.
