Frame Rusting a non-issue due to double wall?

This topic is related to the frame recall on Tacomas related to the rusting issue. Years ago I had the frame sprayed at dealership which was covered by the recall. Since then, the undercoating protection has completely worn off. Recently, I had my truck in for service at the dealership and they discovered a hole in my frame. I had taken it to another shop to evaluate a different issue and while they were looking at the hole in the frame the mechanic said it’s a nonissue due to the frame being “double-walled”. Basically, the point at which a hole wore through was simply a spot which is and never was a part of the frame which is integral to the rigidity and strength of the function of the frame. The mechanic said that most of the rusting is simply cosmetic, and I don’t need to worry about the existing hole nor revisiting the surface, as it appears to be strong and I compromised. Attached is an image of the hole which is located right under rated the footwell of the passenger side door.
Has anyone else heard this kind of opinion on the matter of the Tacoma frames???

That mechanic is not in the know, he gave you incorrect info. The Toyota corporation has paid out millions because of there frames get holes from rust.

    edit:

At the time Toyota did not admit any wrongdoing, but said it would inspect the vehicles and owners whose frames have rust holes greater than four-tenths of an inch in diameter would get new frames. If the hole is smaller the frame would be cleaned and a corrosion-resistant compound will be applied.

The action is expected to cost Toyota about $3.4 billion.

He *may* be a crackerjack mechanic, but he knows zip about structural engineering, steel and rust.

Horsehockey. If that were my truck, I would have it repaired, one way or another. Or sell it or trade it in, but with full disclosure.
It won't get better by itself, and it will eventually reach a point where it is unsafe to drive.

Isn’t the frame covered for a certain amount of time after the undercoating?

The undercoating done by dealers is a band aid, you have a perforation, or hole in your frame, if it's 10mm or bigger that's Toyota's criteria for a bad frame. Your mechanic doesn't know about the ever present issue plaguing Toyota's frames. Undercoating should be a yearly procedure performed by Tacoma owners.after I got a new frame on my 06 I have fluid filmed the frame every fall and it's looking good after 5 years.

(Rubberized) undercoating does not stop rust that has already started. All it is good for is preventing rust from starting - and that only if applied properly.

Depends on where you live. We bought our Tacoma new in 2005. After 16 years the frame still looks perfect, zero rust, no treatment of any kind ever. West coast.

Seems that if you have visible rust and a hole there I’d bet you have worse elsewhere.
I am probably full of chit but maybe you try getting some pics of inside the frame by cats. Above the spare wheel, engine bay, shock mounts, etc.
Throw some cardboard on the ground and crawl under!!
Also check cab corners and body mounts.

Seriously? I'd have bet more than a nickel that frame has never been touched by Toyota's corrosion resistant coatings. Are you sure you attached the right photo?

Here's what it looked like before and after my 2001 DC had the CRC applied circa 2010. There was no way that stuff was coming off, inside the frame or outside.
