The machine in those first few pics is massive. What does it do, and what is it used to make?

It is a Hazelett strip casting machine.
we are a small family owned company and our casters are water cooled pretty unique.
You pour molten metals aluminum, copper or lead in one end and get a sheet out the other end.
It still has to go thru rolling mills to get a finish product but as long as you can feed it it’ll run no cool down times.
We have machines all over the world.
Some big time players in battery production pennys soda beer cans etc.

Who's got time to have a beer at the airport? I schedule my connections, so I'm usually waiting 30 min or less. The only times I have time to sit and eat a proper meal at an airport is when my flights get screwed up.

Nice looking shop, and looks kept up extremely well (family owned a huge + there).
And also sounds like some very cool equipment that you all build. I think I have a basic idea of the process from my tour of the steel foundry in Nebraska.
Thanks for sharing that and safe travels!

appreciate that but I don’t travel much just an old country hic!
Waiting to pic up my daughter I was early they were late so I went to the bar!

on a side note myself and another person rebuilt the owners sea plane motor frame skin and controls.
    No issues,
Toyota techs did brakes on a recent truck I bought and the idiots didn’t tighten the caliper bolts broke a line and lost all brakes top notch stuff there.

Phone is finally dried out from yesterday's wood splitting sweat bath, so here's a photo of the solar panel array. Someone at the solar company dropped the ball on getting 811 (One Call) to mark utilities, so the electricians couldn't do anything except mount a couple boxes on the back of the shop. They have to trench the power run from the shop to the house for the solar to hook into the battery and meter. The battery is back ordered, as well.

Also, I bought a couple pieces of art recently which is what I was waiting for FedEx to deliver yesterday. I got them on the wall a few minutes ago.

For any of you that have time, I need some opinions on something I just learned about. Talking to a TW member on the boating thread I was told about how you can apparently convert a 40 or 50 HP mercury outboard motor to 60 HP. I haven't been able to get much info aside from what this member told me, but here's what I understand so far.

All 3 motors have all of the same specifications, 1.0 L and 995 CC, and the only difference between them is different ECUs and a restrictor plate on the air intake. It sounds like my 40 HP is just a restricted 60. I've found info online where this same thing is true with different manufacturers including Yamaha. So the 3 things that would have to change are an ECU swap, removing the restrictor plate, and finding a new prop size/pitch because my current prop if spun by 20 extra HP would trigger the RPM nanny and put my motor in neutral for safety.

Do you you guys think this is ill advised? I'm aware it would change the driving dynamics of the boat, but it is rated for a 60 HP motor anyway. The only real concern I have is that I can't verify this members info very well yet, and I don't want to risk damaging the motor.

Years ago this same thing was happening.
I believe Mercury had some smaller motors and due to local regulatory shit the
Motors were restricted by the carb. So they would buy a 10hp and buy a 15hp prop and carb and have 15hp. They had the 10hp bonnet so nothing could be done.
So I would not surprise me that this is true and doable

I just came up with this

From what you described and other info and link posted. I would just get the stuff and try it. Get needed parts ahead of time, as well research a little more; new carb gaskets, prop, will the carb need re-jetted?
I should get our boat out and clean it up, it's a older boat but has been taken well care of. Would very much like to get it sold because we've had it out 2x in the last 5 years.
It's a all aluminum Crestliner Nordic, have all the ski stuff for it too. 115HP Johnson, boat a 1974 and motor a 1978. Has never given any problems the 10 times we've used it.
Hope this Hurricane Ida doesn't wreak too much havoc on you down there.

The motor is electronically fuel injected so luckily I don't have to bother with a carburetor. Sounds really easy actually, just need roughly $1000 in parts including a new prop but thats cheap compared to replacing with a 60 HP. A 60 HP would really send my boat humming, it would be really nice.

And thanks for the storm concern, almost certainly gonna lose power but hopefully not for too long.

Thanks for that link, that's exactly the situation I'm in. The 40 is the same structurally as the 50 and 60. You think I could do this conversion without risking durability or longevity loss?

Also, that guy didn't change his prop. I've been told I will need to because if I keep my current prop I'll hit the Rev limiter, which would be annoying. I don't even have a tach on the boat so I'd have to listen and monitor my throttle by ear so not to over Rev. I'm considering a prop a necessary part of this conversion at the moment.

You can buy a mini tach for like 20 bucks and program it to check your max rpm/ live..
    Hell I’d go for it.
I have a carbed 40 hp and never really went looking for more up.
Being 26 years old would be a issue getting parts to do some playing.
