The Acura dealer where we take the other car has a window into the shop area. I've decided it's better for my mental health to not watch. Because it always feels like it takes forever for somebody to start working on the car and after it's done.

At a separate dealer, like 25+ years ago, I dropped off the car and told them I'd be waiting for them to fix it. They said it could take the better part of the day and it's going to be really boring. After a while, the mechanic came out and told me I could watch. He led me out to my car, pulled up a folding chair and told me to have a seat.

The Penske dealer that did my JCW tuning and brake kit sent me a video of the work when they were done. The total walk around the car with the wheels off and showing the flapper exhaust

The Chrysler dealership I used to take my Ram to had a set up exactly like this for about the first year I went there. Then mysteriously one day a bunch of banners and cabinets appeared in front of it so you couldn’t see through anymore.

I personally never had a problem with the mechanical service there, but that truck was a disaster electronics-wise. Not the fault of the mechanics though.

I once took a peek out the shop window when I was having new tires put on or something (1993 K1500), as I took that peek I see the mechanic fitting a socket to the plastic trim cover/cap fake nuts:ohsnap:

I just stepped out front and nervously chain smoked a few cigarettes..hopeing for the best...everything look satisfactory so possibly a early morning brain fart, or maybe he knew that fake nut was the same size..I never checked :notsure:

Geez. Yeah I know a lot of people here have expressed their distrust. Personally, I got a 7 year warranty on my Tacoma so I’ll be taking it to the dealership for everything. If they do something stupid that breaks it, they’re gonna pay for it anyway ;)

I’ve taken my 2021 to the dealership a few times already and the one nearest to me seems great so far.

See, the problem is, very few Know how to doctor or fly a jet or read an xray or design a bridge, yet everyone THINKS they know how to be a mechanic because they changed their oil 20 years ago.

The Toyota dealership I worked for had cameras everywhere in the bays. The supervisors caught other mechanics robbing tools, messing with customers vehicles, and so on. After the workers got fired they caught on that they're being watch.

Or, I’m at the mechanic because I don’t have time to do it, so how do I have time to watch.

Correct. Even in my current position my title Machinist/Mechanic, I know limitations.
Kind of like how doctors and surgeons specialize. I wouldn't want a knee surgeon removing a brain tumor.

Do you spy on your wife too?

If you don't trust your ol lady, local restaurant, or dealer, then leave em and don't go back,,, life is too short to spend your time spying on those you don't trust.

I approve of this idea on the condition that each balcony is equipped with dispensers where you put in a quarter and it gives the tech a free 10mm socket.

And the techs are allowed to throw the socket back.

Hey! Or a booth with a window that has a cover, then you add quarters to open the window :anonymous: lots of quarters. Tip for the tech
