I'm a 911 dispatcher in a small suburban town right outside Boston.
Not a bad gig, almost unlimited overtime-I usually hit my base salary pay by mid July...and the rest of the year is bonus money. Although, I am starting to slow down with taking the OT....

911 dispatcher is a tough gig. They have a standing hire notification where I live the highest turnover of any job in the city.

I vhave never known a department to be fully staffed for any amount of time. I have been here for 8 years-in that time, in total, we were fully staffed for approximately 1.5 years. Not all at once though. Tough gig. People dont realize the trauma and verbal abuse we deal with every day. Its hard on the soul. Fortunately, that left me years ago...

I'm a jack-of all trades, mostly because I was to broke to hire someone, however I have been working in the wholesale building trades 38 yrs and 6 yrs in light auto repair.

I think his point was you misspelled it duck trolling retriever not tolling. I knew what you meant my brother in law has a working toller and it is amazing to watch him work, it blows my mind every time it is successful.

I’m an environmental consultant as well- typically do environmental review and permitting for utility projects. I’m based in my home in Wisconsin (not much field work for me!), work remote for a small Minnesota firm.

Right on. I use to be a consultant and worked on a lot of transportation and utility projects with endangered species or other biological resources like wetlands/other waters. I was mostly in the field back then or at contractor/client trailers for meetings. I switched to the client side and now work for a water district. Grass is so much greener. Not in the field as much anymore. A lot of my time is spent on permit acquisitions, agency communications, contract specifications, permit/contract oversight, and so on. Right now I'm living and breathing a FESA Section 7 consultation with both USFWS and NMFS.
However, I also manage some of our mitigation properties (conservation easements to mitigate impacts from large projects/programs) and have some stewarship projects (wildlife corridor enhancements, restoration, etc) which I really like.

Maybe we should start a seperate thread with @NikonBiologist and @hogfan1978? There may be others that work in our field as well.

Yep! I did work for the state briefly, but the pay in the private industry was too good to pass up.

    Just Getting Started...

I hear that, I spend way too much time on the west coast. Every damn time if go from Sacramento to LA, I get stuck on I-5 shutdown by Pyramid lake... last month's shutdown ended up with me driving my rental Taco through and over the mountains on two track fire roads and less. I still haven't told my Taco (cement) I cheated on it with a ginger Taco.

Just started working for a company that inspects/overhauls industrial gearboxes in many different industries, one of them is plastic extrusion. I've been there two months.
