Entirely true unless you’re a professional driver. And let me make one more point, if you get into an accident where someone gets hurt, your fault or not; some hotshot attorney is going to own you for the rest of your life for disabling those systems (and the insurance company is going to laugh at you and tell you you’re on your own as well!)

don't have to be professional, just have to be good and mindful. the ABS on most systems has conservative thresholds to keep clearly out of scrubbing, and if you can talk with the threshold through skill, you'll stop much faster unaided. i guess you've never tried, it's not hard to discover at all.

 

Dont be dumb, on any given day how many mindful drivers, even in tacos, do you come across each day?

 

Btw, I apologize that I don’t take into account your professional driving skills which of course are usually the first idiots getting killed screwing around.

 

Been to several driving schools for the govt and can tell you that unless you're a race driver the average driver would not be able to stop better faster than the abs system. Just mash it down hard compared to feeling the brakes and physical position of the driver in a screeching stop at an angle. Now, I do agree with the hate for the toyota system! To each there own. I always hated the way my fj would make me look crazy when the pedal went soft! Lol

I'm not concerned with that. Steve said you can stop faster if you have the skill and I'm agreeing and it's clear to me why. I'm not talking about other drivers, liability, etc. stay on topic.

Also, there’s two sides to the liability argument as well. You’d have lobbyists from every aftermarket parts manufacturer storming the court room because there are specific protections in US law for those who choose to modify their vehicles, and those companies and their lobbyist groups would argue that if you crucify some kid for performing modifications that can’t be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be the sole cause of the accident, IE if ANY part of the accident can be explained by something else such as insufficient time and space to react or the like then they will all argue that it’s an overreach of the judicial system to blame the person who modded their car just based on bias and ignore the rest of the situation.

 

So I just ordered the 4-piston S.O.S. rear disc brake conversion with the master cylinder upgrade and e-brake backing plate. I love the front kit. I found that with the front kit, even though i have a 3" lift, there was way too much slack in the longer SS lines than needed. So I recently had to reorder and reinstall the standard length lines on the front kit. I also opted for the standard length lines on this rear kit. I'll post pics up when they're installed in about a month. I would have done this kit sooner but wanted e-brake support - glad they finally figured that out.

EDIT: Since I have the 2020 AT w/ Crawl Control, I already have the electronic booster for the master brake cylinder, so I did not need that upgrade.

The pedal feel is diminished with the new rear kit in. I have to press harder to get stopping power with the rears now, not less. Once I get there with the pedal, there is "more" stopping power that I feel in the butt dyno.

I am not convinced that RSG Offroad bled the brakes properly since I have to push almost another inch into the pedal to get the same traction on the pads as before. So when I take my truck in for service next month at the dealership, I will have them redo the brake flush and see if that helps.

RSG has basically screwed up every single job on my truck for the past 6 visits. They don't check their work, plain and simple. Over and over. When I first picked up the truck from the rear brake upgrade, I asked if the e-brake worked and could at least hold the weight of the truck on a mild incline. I was told Yes, it works. I went outside to check it out. The e-brake had 0 retention/tension whatsoever. None. Nothing. Zero. The e-brake handle was completely dead with nothing behind it. Obviously then, it couldn't prevent the truck from rolling backward in their parking lot on a 1 inch incline! I have dozens of examples like this. My truck won't ever go back to that shop again.

 

Where did you get your Sequoia master cylinder? This will work for my 2020 AT Off-road? I would be super stoked if this would restore pedal feel after a double disc upgrade (front and rear).

 

Is there a thread on 3rd gen front brake pad options?

Some pads offer more initial "bite" , some offer higher friction, some hold up to heat.

Getting to know which ones fall in which category can take years. Seat of the pants testing being what it is.

I could go for pads with shorter service life if they offered performance equal to "big brake kits"

Rust is the rotor killer in my area. I've never worn out a rotor that didn't first succumb to corrosion.

 

On my 3rd set of stainless lines from Tom at SOS Performance. This pic is of the second set that didn't make it 2 years. It burst while coming to stop in a f**king parking lot last night. Me and my entire family were on the interstate just a few days ago. If this happened while we were traveling we'd likely be dead. Maybe I'll just go back to OEM lines. In all my years and all my vehicles and all my upgrades to them along the way, including several big brake kits, I've never had a line burst.
