Went in to place deposit on 2021 and they said it would actually be a 2022. TRD off road Lunar Rock, weather proof mats, upgraded headlights and technology package, blackout package. Got quoted $40,400 or so

At today’s prices, I’d be inclined to buy a classic car/truck with no chips, except for potato chips, just good old points and condenser I’d have to change only every 12k miles.

Most of those run like new as they are well taken care of by their owners and as a bonus, they maybe solar flare or nuclear blast proof, if It and I were to survive such an event lol!

I just paid MSRP for a 21 DCLB sport with extra factory installed options. They wouldn't give me any break, not even a free $110 bed mat... I felt that I had to do this because there are dealers that are closer to NYC that are asking 10% over on the most basic models. I even had to bend on the color choice.

MSRP is the best you can do in Calif. right now as well.
If you bring up color or option preference, They treat you like you are being picky.
And should just be grateful you are paying MSRP. :bananadance::rofl:

My 2001 tundra ran perfect at 290k miles, and 19 years....it was just addicted to gasoline, so you still have aways to go.

I wonder what kind of experiences people have with the other Brands like GM, Dodge, Ford etc etc purchasing the new vehicles cause here all we hear is how bad Toyota salesman are and people getting ripped off by their dealers. Just curious does anyone here know of someone, Please share.

Thanks for the info. Looking to purchase a 2022 TRD OR 4WD or Trail as soon as they are available to order. Does anyone know of other dealers in the US that are offering discounts in this crazy time? I have a 2022 Ram 3500 on order. I know the price gouging is across the board for stealerships. I did however find a CJDR dealer in La that is still offering aggressive pricing on new orders ($9k+ off) regardless of the current times. It will just be a good wait due to the chip, circuit board and shipping situation. Hoping to find a dealer somewhere in the southwest region anyone knows of that is not taking advantage of the market and still offering discounts. Thanks!

It's the same or worse. I just ordered a 2022 Ram 3500 (posted above). I searched like crazy for the right dealership. Found one on the HD Ram forums that is still giving awesome discounts (Mark Dodge Lake Charles, La). Here to find the same on a 22 Taco. Love Toyotas. Had 3 in the recent past, but needed a HD truck to tow a 5th wheel. This will be my 3thrd HD truck. Currently the wife is in a 2011 VW Touareg TDi. Love the thing, but nothing but emissions issues. Blame it on VW or the US ridiculous emissions requirements. Been in the shop for 6wks now. They can't figure out what's up with it. The wifey and I miss having a reliable vehicle for her to drive. Anyway, yeah all the other manufacturers are either giving very minimal discounts or selling at MSRP or gouging over MSRP! Ordering a vehicle seems like the way to go...depending on the dealership. Supply and demand. Sold orders are easier for a dealer to discount as they know it's sold and won't have to sit on their lot and incur certain fees. With the current situation, if it's on the lot, they can charge whatever they want due to the shortage of inventory. And we're a "need it now" society!

Not for 2022 if that's what you're asking. 22 MY hasn't been released yet. If you want a 2021 MY, not for certain, but it might be to late to order. Your order will be for 22 MY. I'm waiting to hear back from my sales rep as to when I can place an order.

Funny sorry when I bought my truck way pre pandemic. I showed up, worked the deal and then went and got a certified cashiers check from Bank of America. Brought it back to them and the finance guy looked at me like I was an alien and said we don’t takes these checks. I started laughing and asked what do you mean. Everyone knows a certified check from a bank is as good as it gets. He said no I can’t accept this check but if you would like to write out a personal check, we certainly take those. At this point, I’m really confused. I said to the guy, you’ll take a personal check that can bounce tomorrow but you won’t take a certified check that can clear right this minute. Talk about a very strange interaction.

I’ve seen a few 18-19 used SRs going for 33-34k at the moment. Saw a stock 16 TRD Sport with 70k miles for $40k.

    Don’t know who’s paying $40k for a 70k mile 5 year old Tacoma though.

Unfortunately, there is probably a long line of people waiting for used trucks like that. Sad but it’s the new crazy world we live in.

It's temporary and only someone desperate or not very bright would pay $40k for a Tacoma with 70k miles.

Look at lumber prices. A couple months ago a sheet of OSB was $65 and it looked like there was no end in sight. Now you can walk into any home Depot and grab one for $14.

I'd never buy any high dollar item when there's a frenzy, you're probably going to get burned. The same thing is going to happen to anyone who bought a house the last few months or tapped into equity thinking they couldn't go without a home renovation they saw on HGTV.

I hope it's temporary. But you're comparing wood we can get here in the US to chips, circuit boards and steel we buy from China. A lot going on, on both fronts. I'm trying to buy 2 trucks and a house! Haha! So, yeah, I'm waiting a few months to see what happens with both.

    You're smart to wait.

With lots of industries, I agree. I'm familiar with bikes... they were one area hit particularly hard, but production wasn't ramped up as they felt there was a limited time to capture and adjusting manufacturing takes a long time and a huge investment. So we've watched that was an accurate assessment and thing's are settling a bit there.

When it comes to chips, production has been ramped up. The investments were made to crank out more, so I read there's actually concern a glut could be on the horizon, probably not this year, but certainly possible in the near future.

One thing I believe is certain, people won't be able to continue to part with higher vehicle and home/rent prices (two of the largest expenses most have) for an extended period without a correction to one of both.

We took advantage of the market and sold our home. Crazy the price it sold for! We have other means of living. We've been looking almost every day for land and houses. Prices are decreasing from 3% or more depending on location. Homes that aren't selling, cuz they are asking double the price from the value they were in Jan 2020 are now dropping their prices by the tens of thousands monthly. I do also think it will somewhat level off in the next few months, but then it will take a turn for the worse again. I was able to find a dealer 5hrs from me that is still giving tremendous discounts on all their ordered vehicles, CJDR. Now I just need to get my wife a Taco for a decent deal and keep searching for land and a home.
