I dont always agree with Baja Designs, but check out their zone breakdown on their website. They address this relationship between foreground light and distance light. Basically you design your lighting system around your distance lights. You cant overpower your distance lights with too much foreground light or you then negatively affect your distance vision. So like Toy Runner said, you can have alot of foreground light if you have a ridiculous distance light setup.

I have a couple cheapo tac lights, nothing noteworthy and certainly no dedicated thread. You can compare candela to spec by using an LED calibrated lux meter and measuring output at say 20-30’, then use a lux to candela online converter and plugging in your lux values and the distance measured to calculate the candela.

I have an OKW for him to test too, lol.

I really appreciate what Crash has done here. I was reading back through the thread and was wondering if Crash thinks the stock Tacoma LED fogs on my truck were able to de-ice well? I didn't see the housing/lens temps for that particular foglamp. Since they draw on the lower end wattage, can I assume that I may have some issues in adverse conditions?

I also ask because those SS3 pros in selective yellow are looking mighty fine and winter is right around the corner...

Those OEM LEDs only draw 6.6w each, no where near enough to de-ice while also being set back behind a projector. While many factors go into how warm the unit runs on the lens, the first most important aspect is power, which translates to heat. 6.6w is hardly anything, less than half the power of the SS3 Sports which fail to clear snow/ice. The Pro by comparison is just shy of 40w, far more power and heat for cold weather conditions. Yellow lenses also filter light, and filtering light generates heat on the lens, so the yellow lenses run hotter than the clears.

I think I may be to blame, if you came from a Ford group on facebook. Sorry not sorry, :)

I don't know if I will ever read through the entire thread. But, really valuable info here. Thank you, Crash, for all of the detailed information and time you spent.

I came here from following a link from a Ford forum and it was at 250 pages then. Looked for the cliff notes version and couldn't find one soooo I started reading. Just a warning, there is great information Crash shared BUT it could be an expensive thread to read :)

I just saw a jeep the other day that had no less than $3k-$4k on Baja Designs lighting.

I think there's always a point of diminishing returns in almost everything, but what do I know, I'm just a dang ole turkey in the straw.

No need to read the entire thread, all the product reviews are linked at the top of the first page, so I’d just look at those along with the original post. The best performers to date are the Diode Dynamics SS3s in their different trim levels.

I’m from the south where it never snows. What would be the better option. The white or amber option?

Selective yellow is better in poor weather conditions that fogs are designed for. Note that the newer Diode Dynamics SS3s outperform the Rigid's.

Very nice. I ordered the pro fogs in 3k yesterday and they shipped this morning. I can't wait to put these on, the yellow goes well with an army green truck and I always liked the white/bluish headlamps with the yellow fogs ever since my old IS300.

What would I need to do to fix that? I haven’t used them except while driving on the highway and then they go off with oncoming cars. Haven’t had anyone flash me but I’m careful about it.
