Hello my name is John. I have a 2012 TRD sport with 169,000. The other day I put the peddle down and really got into it for a few seconds. Seems like since then my tranny has some hard shifting which I have had before but also now today I started it up and it puffed out from what my girlfriend said a bluish white smoke. She said it was a decent amount. So should I be worried? Should I trade in now while it’s still running good or risk something happening and loosing some trade in value? Or is it something I should even worry about? Thanks

Start up blue smoke is typically a valve seal, you may have unseated one.

Smoke on startup most commonly is from worn Valve Guide Seals. Not a huge deal unless it is causing noticeble oil consumption or is smoking all the time. Just a puff at startup isn't a deal breaker. You should be able to have them replaced for a few hundred dollars at an independent shop. I have no idea what Toyota would charge.

I always kept up to date with maintenance. I even put Lucas in once or twice a year on oil changes.

My 2010 with 100k on it likes to smoke a bit on start up as well and when I put the pedal down . I believe the truck has done it since new . Doesnt use any oil or anti-freeze . Did the plugs a while back and all were showing signs of normal . Havnt noticed any power loss . Maybe we have something in common , Change the oil every 5k .

Yea I haven’t noticed any smoke till I got on it the other day. Also seemed ok besides feeling like I had to kick it into a lower gear at one point to maintain a stead speed going uphill. So maybe some power loss or could just be me. It was about a week later when it smoked. What color is your smoke?

Regarding the shifting issues,. If the transmission fluid has never been serviced, I would start there. What size engine and I'm assuming its a MT?

Replace your failing PCV valve and give it the old Italian tune up.

I have had the tranny flushed about 40k ago. I have the stuff to drop and pan and and replace filter and what fluid I can. Also have some Lucas to put in.

Stop using Lucas. Just use a good motor oil and you don't need to waste money on that snake oil junk.
