When I went to buy one that’s all the dealer had. Not to mention my wife can’t just jump in and take it

    Stock for now.. maybe
2 wheel drive low gear mod was really helpful for me especially in reverse and backing trailors.

There is someone on here that sells a 3rd gen version totally plug and play at a reasonable price. I have a second gen 2lo mod.

Search 'tacomaworld 2lo mod 3rd gen' in Google and I'm sure you'll find the thread

    Edit- well I guess I'm alittle late/behind

Only works if you have 4wd to begin with.

    lol. Definitely the truth

For me I just learned on an MT when I was about 10 and never went back. Had an auto Nissan Maxima in college for a few years (best fucking car ever, sold it with 265K miles on it), but always MT since then. It’s just so much more fun, worse mpg nowadays, but i love driving it. My wife has always driven MTs too ❤️

On the 3rd Gen there are only 4x4's if you want MT.

When the SR 4bangers still had a MT option, did they only come in 4x4 as well? Or was there a RWD only option for them?

The original 2lo is was just not locking in your manual hubs. Then manually shift your transfer into 4lo and there ya have it.

Now, for some ungodly reason that I could never understand to this day, is why we lost the damn transfer case manual lever in favor of more cup holders, and the freaking manual locking hubs? Now we have to do "mods" to get the new trucks to work like our old trucks.

Someone, please tell me what the advantage of all this goofiness was for again?

Oh, and if you haven't noticed or paid attention, but we also lost the Neutral option with our transfer cases. I predict that it won't be long and we will lose Lo range as well. I mean really!

I personally never go anywhere without at least 2 coffee travel mugs, 5 soda bottles and a water. Frankly, I would prefer even more water bottle space so if they could put the gear shift back on the column and utilize more bottle storage space in the center console I would be in favor of that.

After driving a manual daily for the last 6 years in mostly stop and go city traffic I'm so happy to have an automatic again.

That said I am glad that I know how to drive manual just in case it ever comes up. Lots of people my age and younger don't know how. (Insert millennial anti theft device joke here)

ARE topper. Mud guards, factory steps, third bed rail behind cab, tacorail accessory holder, ram mount tablet mount, hood wrap and retro stripes. Bug shield and window shields. Molle seat cover on tear seat.
I had a 2019 OR manual and loved it, but I had to trade it in for a 2021 auto because I am getting left knee surgery and won't be able to use the clutch for some time. Age and careless youth took it's toll. It was fun though.

    I don't believe the 2016 - 2017 4 banger 5 Speed MT had a 2 wheel drive option either.

My 2017 SR, MT is 4x4. I was only looking at 4 X 4's, so I don't recall if the MT was also offered in 2 X 4.

"I predict that it won't be long and we will lose Lo range as well." Tell me about it. My ex had a 2001 Ford Escape "4x4". After we had it a couple of years, I decide to take my kids off-roading and when I reached for the rotating knob, there was no 4Lo. I couldn't freaking believe it....

Well the 2014 model sure did and it's been my unicorn hunt the past couple of years. Specificlly, the 2014 2WD 2-door 4-cyl 5-speed manuel shortbed. This was the last year Toyota offered this configuration. If ya see one for sale, please PM me....

Terry I've had 2x left knee surgeries, and 4x right knee surgeries, the last one being a total knee replacement. I still drive my manuel Tacoma Sport every day. Just sayin....
