Ida is going to be passing Baton Rouge pretty closely over the next few hours, thankfully for us though it has shifted slightly east. Also has been downgraded to category 2 which is good.

Good morning, enjoying coffee and news, trying to decide plan of the day.
I got daughter's new radiator installed and test drove, antifreeze topped up. I'm going to have her drive my car this week so I can give her Jeep a better shake down run.
Tried to get new fuel tank installed in Corvette but it's so far winning the battle.
Tank straps are the correct length but getting them pulled down around the last inch..ugh

Monday funday. Got to countersink these holes and add a 30° chamfer on one side of this stainless plate.

That's large! Will you have to do the chamfer by hand?

I usually do when I run this job but I am going to try and use the mill this trip, it gets countersunk to .945", haven't done this one in a couple years.

Looking good. I was tasked with putting some holes in AR something steel (400/500)
anyways I ended up just plasma burning a hole just needed for bolt clearance. Worse than any flavor of stainless I've dealt with.

Is that because of carbon introduced into the metal?

Thanks, somehow miraculously we didn't lose power (yet). Everyone I know did. My sister in New Orleans got it a lot worse than I did.

I don't recall the exact property of that plate but know it was for a security modification.
Bullet resistant. Shoot out position or vulnerability they were improving if I recall.

It has a high carbon content and very resistant to wear.

My Uncle was a steel mill worker for Florida Steel for 36 yrs and I remember hearing him bitch about adding alloys and other shit to steel for hardness of the steel.

When I toured Nucor Steel school field trip it was pretty cool. They have a massive carbon electrode that turns scrap steel into big molten pot, before they call it good they take a sample of its makeup. Then if needed I believe they had separations of different scrap they could add in. Pretty sure that place is the largest consumer of electricity in the state.

Its some fascinating stuff at how it's made and remember him bitching about metal content in the ingots when cooling the blocks (don't know the right term) and if it was to rapid it would mess shit up and warp...
