Painted the chrome tailight bezel black. Such a small thing that makes a huge difference. It actually makes the smoked chrome light look less chrome so that might stay.

Fun fact I learned today: This tailight bezel is specific to the Low Rider S and currently is the only bike in production that uses this specific part number. The bezel itself was created for the Dyna Switchback which was in production for a very short time in 2012. It uses different mounting points than the million other bikes that have the same style bezel so this part isn’t interchangeable with anything else. Furthermore, Harley nor the aftermarket have come up with a black replacement for it (yet). Harley guys tend to spend a lot of money on chrome parts that they want black or black parts that they want chrome. I refuse to pay for the exact same part in a different color and I have paint and I know how to use it so I got to sanding and spraying.

Harley logo straight from Dunlop. They’ve been doing that for years as the factory supplier. They used to just have the HD on the sidewall but they sure do love their branding and put logos everywhere. Even the socket head bolts have HD stamped into them. It’s annoying.

    truck and bike.jpg

My bike next to my truck. Bike is a 2019 Electra Glide Standard, with a ton of mods done to it. WAY too many to list. I have to change the front brake pads this week. This winter, I am putting in a 2 into 1 decatted pipe, and a WBO2 sensor, to open her up a little more. Currently a stage 1 in it (Screaming Eagle high flow exhaust, V&H pipes, and a Dynojet tuner).
Done all the work on her myself. I take it to the shop once every 5k (I do about 10k miles a year on her), just to keep it within warranty. I do all the regular work myself-fluid changes, brake pads, etc. Except tires. Working on the bike is almost as therapeutic as riding it. I figured I would pick up a truck this year, as the bike is almost completely built out :)

Went and bought a nice 1500 mile used 2019 CRF250 Rally today. Came with bark busters, a seat concepts seat, and a rear PMR rack. Brought it home and slapped on a giant loop tank bag I had sitting around and one of my spare pelican cases that's been on three previous bikes. Looking forward to some fun with this little guy.

Alright boys. In a few hours I’m leaving on my 3500 mile journey to pick up this speed four.

before even laying eyes on the bike… I’ve ordered a micron slip on exhaust, Speed Triple 1050 headlight lenses, and TT600 cams.

the headlight lenses in the 1050 are clear. Stock S4 are fluted. I think the clear lenses look way better.

as for the cams….. There were a couple factors. One, they were $50 for intake and exhaust. Two, there is no map I can find for a speed four and aftermarket exhaust. There are some for the TT600 though, and the rest of the motor/exhaust is the same. Just different cams. Third, the speed four supposedly has a stronger mid range than the TT600 at the expense of top end power. But one magazine the at dyno’d both found that the speed four had a small advantage from 3500-4750 and like 4 ft lb more at 7500. But peak power was down at 88 compared to 96 on the TT.

I’m not buying a 600 for big torque… that’s what my speed triple is for. So I think a stronger top end will better suit how I plan to ride this thing. My speed triple dynod mid 90’s, so should be awesome to have in the stable. Similar power but in a totally different way.

I've decided to sell my 2016 CB500f, so I thought I would get one last pic of the ponies together in the stable. Will be sad to see it go, but it never gets ridden and I want to buy a Jeep TJ to cruise around in this fall.

Haha, it's not going anywhere. I ride it more than any other and is the reason I am selling the CB500f. They're similar in looks and ergonomics, except the FZ does everything better and faster. The only advantage to the CB is gas mileage.

Don’t ride a speed triple. The Yamaha will be gone instantly if you do

Nice ... do you think the 2017+ model is a big improvement over the 2014-16 FZ?

Absolutely. The 1st gens had terrible fuel mapping which caused very twitchy throttle response. The 17+ models have 3 maps (A, B & Standard), as well as traction control and ABS. The upgraded LED lighting is nice as well. The 3rd generation 21+ models are supposed to be even better, especially in the suspension department.

Thanks I have read about the touchy throttle and soft suspension but figured those can be addressed. The traction control and ABS are nice added features

none of them are that great. Get something else. Even my ‘99 speed triple was light years ahead of my FJ09.

The twitchy throttle was not addressed even after I had a 2wdw flash. The suspension I left alone because I weigh 130 lb but it still never felt good. Crest a hill even slightly leaned and it wanted to go tank slapper. The geometry is just bad. The brakes inspire 0 confidence. maybe my 955 spoiled me but the CP3 feels pretty gutless until 7k.

the build quality was not good either. I had to get Gilles chain adjusters because the stock aluminum blocks got wallowed out, the rear brake light switch quit working, the dash would quit if it got hot in the sun.
