did your flange come bent like that? That would help on third gens. 2nd gen is flat and not much pressure on the tailgate if any

Pretty sure uptop is took tall. The Prinsu on 3rd gens is borderline. I think uptop is taller slightly

3rd gen has a better setup or more promise. 2nd gen was an afterthought

Nice I likely will get the 3 camera version. I saw it after the fact. it wasn’t too bad. There are some grommets in the lower rear cab. Punch a hole then ram it up to try x1. There are 2 small grommets for running wires under the overhand . Then you just run it back. I would suggest getting the hardwire kit. Makes it easy. Then you just tap into the fuse box. I picked up a plug and play kit for tapping the taillights for back up.

Well I originally just got a pool noodle but no flange when I picked the truck up lol. Then Spencer installed a ghetto flange when I went back to have them look at something. This bent flange is what they mailed me once they had new design tested. Seems to work ok.

I have a dongle that powers my existing front dash cam through the rear view mirror. I haven’t tested it yet but I’m hoping it works for this 3 camera set up.
Did you have to remove the 3rd brake light/replace the seal at all?

I've only used my ARB awning a few times. It is kind of a pain but not that bad once you figure out a system. I've got an 8x8ft, which is pretty unwieldy. The biggest annoyance for me is if the awning has condensation on it that doesn't dry up before you roll it up, you'll have to deploy the it again later to dry it out. If I'm just spending one night at a place I tend not to use it - it has the same weakness as a RTT itself where you have to stow it if you want to drive anywhere. But it is nice to have for more living space when it rains. And will be nice for desert trips this winter to stay out of the sun. Most likely those are the only two times I'll use it unless I'm staying somewhere for a few days and won't be driving.

I think trying to stay bug free is a losing battle...at least it is for me as I'm in and out of the truck and camper often at night. I picked up an electric fly swatter. Gets rid of the mosquitos pretty well. When it's time for bed I close everything up and take a couple mins to kill everything in the bed and tent area. Works pretty well for that.

I was excited for this product, but for $12,000USD i would expect they get the length right for my 2nd Gen. It looks unfinished.

Ah, my bad, its the model on the 3rd gen then that gets the adapter, and looks like its too short?

I removed the one in the rear and added new vhb for the rear camera.

fir the rear view I couldn’t stand the way it straps over so order the mount that mounts to it and replaces the stock mirror. I had that dongle too but not using it since mirror is out and I had the headliner out.

They adjusted so it’s universal for gen 1-3. They had it longer initially but was too long for other gens.

They made the 3rd Gen canopy "short" on purpose. See below, since the 3rd gen has a wide tailgate you can use the top of it as a step to either get into the camper, close it, or reach anything you may have mounted on top. It looks a bit weird but is super useful to be able to do that and I use it to get into the camper all the time now. As with a lot of things on these campers is a well thought out design feature.

I don't know if making the camper design uniform for all 3 gens changes this, I have an earlier model.

At least the first 2nd gen that got one it hung past the rear of the truck it might have been super early version. On the 2nd gen its more or less flush now.

Yeah that’s pretty much what I do. Bedtime bug killing ritual. But beyond the bedtime problem I camp in Big Sur a lot and the kelp flies are so bad sometimes that it’s impossible to sit outside, so the mesh room is hopefully a way of creating some additional sitting/cooking space. Marrying it to the rear of the SP is probably a pipe dream. We’ll see.

Yeah flies can be a whole nother level of PITA. I was having issues with moths a few times on my recent trip. Tons of them, constantly flying right into my face when I had headlamp on at night.

Your setup looks like it would keep a lot of them at bay. Maybe another piece to go under the tailgate and drop to the ground.

If you can't get it to work you could always go with a standalone bug tent. There are lots of those around. Might even be more flexible than trying to have something attached to the truck

Has anyone figured out how to get the rear door to open with the keyless entry as opposed to manually using the key every time?

If you mean the x1 door you would need to wire up a solenoid similar the the tailgate. Likely would need a different handle too. That would take a bit of force. I don’t think anyone has done that yet.

I might get a bid from a tent repair/seamstress/sailmaker/boat awning shop on cutting out and hemming the edges to fit around the door and the open tailgate, add a second zipper wherever I don't keep the first one. I could velcro it around the SP door and use magnets on the Tacoma body.
