Stripped the 10mm bolt on the diff

What the trick to fix the strip of the star bold. Just wondering how to get that bolt out.
Any ideas?

Welllll it’s an Allen not a star….

hammer on a torx and see if you can turn it.

Get some computer dust off, the cans of compressed air. Turn can upside down and blast the liquid on it for a few seconds. Flashes off at about -50F.

Then give it a little tappy tapp tapp with a hammer, and it should back out with whatever you can hammer in the striped plug.

No, I would get a new seal washer for it though.
It’s the big brass looking one if I remember correctly.

^ Same goes for ECGS bushing, separating suspension ball joints, rusted bolts… it’s great stuff. Basically the reverse of torching things so you don’t F up your truck as easily

 

I've used an air chisel, manual chisel and hammer and I have welded 22mm lug nuts to front Toyota diff drains.

They kinda suck.

I got a Lexus 12mm internal and a SnapOn 12mm allen socket and so far that's good, but if it breaks again next time I'll get the gold (phosphate?) lexus one with a 24mm external hex.

Best thing you can do for these front plugs is put a little heat to them, always replace the crush washer under it, have a spare on hand, and pray you don't need it.

 

I also only hand tighten them sum guns. I think while I have mine drained I'm going to weld a grade 8 nut to it for good measure. I hate hex fittings in those applications, they also fill with dirt/crud easily and make it difficult to get the allen key seated properly.

 

I have been looking for a flat 10mm Hex socket for the 10mm allen plugs with a flat face, confirmed with the company that this one is completely flat on the end and not rounded like 99% of them. It's also slightly rough around the areas for grip. If you order $25 worth of stuff it's free shipping. This ought to help some people in the future.

Happened to me on my old truck a couple years ago. I ended up taking it to my local garage. They welded a nut onto it, problem solved. Cost me $15

 

I’ve used a chisel to notch the plug and then an air hammer chisel to turn the plug, it’s worked 100% of the time for me
