And some dealers give the name of the inventory specialist on their website, so you could ask for them by name when you call.

 

Inventory manager just called me. The truck was built on the 16th, but is stuck in Mexico and hasn't even been assigned a ship. Looks like early-to-mid October. I asked about switching it to a 2022, to which he said, "Shoot, those probably won't be out until December or even 2022 at this rate. They're even taking cars and trucks from us." Fuuuuun.

 

I'm not sure I would trust the "ship" comment. You're in Oregon, trucks from Baja are trucked across the border to San Diego then transported up the coast. My $ says you have it within 3 weeks. Stay strong, you're gonna love it when you get it.
Unless they meant "ship date". What do I know?

 

Thanks for the encouragement! Been working on this since June, so what's a little longer...What you're saying makes sense. He mentioned cargo ship from the MX plant to Baja, and that they are short longshoremen (person? not sure what they're saying these days). We shall see.

 

Which dealer did you order through? Im just up in Vancouver but have to pick it up in pasco wa.

Called sales manager this evening and he was surprised it didn't arrive today. Working out of town during the week lately so Friday can come soon enough!!

 

I hope that's not accurate. Mine was built maybe days before yours, also in Baja. My original delivery date was mid-September... Fingers crossed!

 

my truck was allegedly built on the 19th and was told last week it was scheduled for shipping late September to early october

I ordered in March and it arrived in late August. 5 months. I ordered a what I was told was a unicorn. TRD Sport 4x4 with 6ft bed. That may have taken more time to assemble that combination.

 

They said they would call when the VIN was assigned. Never happened. Got a call the truck was at the dealer.

 

haha...the unicorn thing again - doesn't land well in these parts. They are all unicorn, special snowflakes these days. (Everyone seems to think their massively produced truck is special.)

 

Ordered a 21 Cement AC manual TRD Sport in March, they couldn’t pull it off, changed to a 22 Lunar Rock AC manual TRD Sport, just got dealer info they are not making any Tacoma’s due to a lack of steering racks, start date is unknown. Toyota excepted the order, so at least it is one step further than I got for the 21!

It's kinda maddening. On 8/24 I got an email from my sales guy saying it MIGHT be in by the end of the month.
The next day I got an email from the same guy saying it was in.

I do feel like this is a problem they haven't had to deal with until the past few months. They've generally either a) had stock or b) had local dealers they would "trade stock" with.
@gsubioguy I feel like you're just a little behind me as far as allocation / production dates.
Fingers crossed that yours arrives soon!

 

@nhpoke manager was surprised it didn't arrive yesterday based on the date it was loaded on a train at the port. Doesn't really make a difference since I'm working out of town (~2+hrs away) this week so I was always going to be waiting until Friday. Though I definitely would be dragging the back lot daily if I were home!

CONGRATULATIONS! At least you have a tangible truck now!

 

I don’t know if I should feel grateful or frustrated that my dealer is an hour north of me. I feel like if it was 5 minutes away I’d drive by everyday. Being that it’s an hour away, I am at the mercy of my salesman to tell me when the truck arrives arrives.

Going backpacking this weekend for 5 days and hoping that no miracles happen with the truck arriving while I’m gone.

Actually, I don’t know how that works. How long do dealerships typically let cars sit on the lot before you start getting charged or before they start threatening to sell to someone else?
