wife. SLT was jumpy and caused a washboard effect as the. Truck would lurch and then you’d bump the next rock, causing your foot to drop a tiny bit, causing another surge over and over.

Personally I like L (Regular (MAXX)), 5.29 and 35's I love the feel of it. I think it's all dependent of your driving style, different folks, different strokes. Getting used to the pedal before you get it offroad would definitely be recommended. I think thats the biggest hurdle and I could be wrong, but after years of mashing the pedal and going nowhere we can now tap it a gogogo and that just takes some getting used too.

Howdy all! I asked @NickJacq23 (who is a fine human being and was awesome to work with on the scheduling and tuning process) this question, and I think he told me yes, but I wanted to verify. Can you guys code out the inevitable check engine light that will occur if I remove the catalytic converters from the vehicle *WARNING* FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY *WARNING*? The best defense against catalytic converter theft is not having them, right?

You can take out the secondary cats without throwing any codes.

If it is just to prevent catalytic converter theft, then you do not need to take out the front cats, since they are really tucked near the engine. No way you are getting a saw in there to cut them out.

Preventing theft was a joke - I would do this for performance/aural purposes. Good to know about removing the secondary cats without throwing a code! Thanks

I believe there is a specific settings in the tune that can be adjusted to prevent O2 sensor codes, if you choose a no-front cat set up.

I had both URD and aFe Ypipes on KDMax with no issues.

I recall Mat saying you would be able to create a tune that essentially cut torque to 30% (as an example) of normal for 4lo so you could use most of the pedal range… basically making it much more controllable.

You’re not going to see any significant power gains from removing your catalytic converters. The power difference on 800HP cars these days is like 15HP so you you’d be lucky to see about 3-4HP on these motors. Not worth it.

Anyone running aggressive throttle in Colorado, Denver area through the winter?

How does the aggressive throttle handle snow and ice? I like it but seems like an accident waiting to happen in winter weather. Maybe I'm a bad driver, or have a heavy foot. Aggressive throttle has me pealing out in summer, in winter this would be a problem.

Really it depends on the car and the design of the exhaust system, not necessarily the horsepower. My other car (putting out about 400hp stock), especially with a tune, is able to produce about 10% more horsepower by removing the single catalytic converter from the exhaust system. I haven't done the research on the Tacoma and if this is a limitation, just something I was looking into. The noise difference, on most any car, in my experience, is typically significant. In both aggressiveness and... quality? It's subjective on that front, really.

If the motor were turbocharged, then yes, you would see improvement in spool time and power but not in a low rev NA V6. It’s just my opinion that it would not be worth it. You’d see better gains from a tune. The motor will never flow enough air NA to make a difference.
