It's been about 5 years since I installed my flowmaster 40 series and the muffler is rusting out from living on the coast and the pipes from the cat have some surface rust. I enjoy the sound a lot but I just found out Flow sold out and started producing in China. I want to purchase Made in the USA.

First idea was to just get a muffler replacement but now I am thinking about a new cat back system. If it's just surface rust is there even a need for all new pipe? Everywhere I look online I can only find "short bed" systems. If I have a long bed, can't I just add on some pipe somewhere to make it a bit longer and fit? Looking for an exhaust that is made for long beds and I like moderate/aggressive sound.

Can't find long bed exhaust system. Everything I find online is for shortbed.

You have a longbed too? I wonder what the data is from Toyota if more Shortbeds or longbeds have been sold overall.

Made in the USA will rust just like made in China , except made in China is 300$ cheaper

Would you say Flowmaster sounds best out of all of them? I was reading Borla is some longtime company like Flowy and they are known for high quality product and thats why they have the most expensive systems. MBRP was on the cheap side so I figured the "aluminzed steel" was the first savings and the exhaust was just a straight pipe basically. lol

Very true. I really enjoy the 40 series muffler on it currently. I was thinking of how much a difference the super 44 really is to the 40. I assume louder and more resonating.

Yeah I’ve got a super 44. It sounds good but it’s pretty loud for longer trips.

Alright for half the price of a magna flow I went ahead and just ordered this. https://www.holley.com/products/exh...glass_pack_mufflers/flowfx_series/parts/71226

With minimal surface rust on the existing pipe before and after the muffler, I decided to just replace the muffler. On Flowmasters scale this might be a little quieter than the super 40 that is on currently, but I hope with the "pass through" design, maybe the truck will preform slightly better if the exhaust is blowing directly out. Balling on a budget.

Nice! Let me know how it sounds. I’m probably going to be replacing my super 44 with something quieter as I’ve been doing a lot of highway driving

Magnaflow is just trash, there were trash prior to move into China. The one I bought for my first gen rusted so badly after a year that i'm pretty sure it barely qualified as 304 stainless. It also fit like shit.

That's what I have on mine at the moment. Had a spare laying around in garage from a past project I went a different route with.
It's ...ok... Kind of on the 'tame' side, but with the drone still. lol

I'm going to redo it once the temp here drops below triple digits on a weekend... hopefully Sept...
I have a very lightly used 3" Aero in the garage(another project that I pulled if from to put a quieter exhaust on), figure WTH, may as well see what it sounds like.

I have an aFe ypipe to Borla to dual side exit.
I don't experience drone, since my whole cab is sound deadened up to 3 layers.

Please ignore the odd anime music, Spotify radio was weird that day...

Gibson. Is cheap and sounds good. Been three years in northeast, and outside of surface rust it's been great.

Tame side? I have been happy with the Super 40 Flowwy and it's sound. I think I just got used to the resonating that it doesn't bother me anymore. I was hoping to keep it same decible/loudness but switch it up to a different company. I'm going to check out Gibson and maybe return this one I ordered. Also very curious if the moisture inside the muffler will degrade the fiberglass that is inside of the "pass through" FlowFX flowmaster.

Anyone know about fiberglass in mufflers degrading quicker due to moisture?

I went through a few mufflers. I think Blakc widow has the best non-feminine sound.

I have a 64 T bird and the local muffler shop recommended replacing the old 50+ year old mufflers with Magnaflows. I was a bit disappointed in how quiet it idles and how you don't hear the muffler until you really step on it. It doesn't resonate much at all which is the upside I guess but on an old car you kind of expect the ole throaty 390 to really scream.
