Valve cover gasket around the plug is leaking.

The 1GR-FE doesn't have "spark plug tubes". Just a gasket/seal between the head and valve cover.

Disregard the arrows as the images were from something else.

See no spark plug tube. All cast seal areas.

From what I can tell from the Carfax information that I have nothing like this has ever been done to this truck. I got this truck in 2018 it had 109k on it. In July of 2019 I had the spark plugs changed and everything was fine then. I just had my spark plugs changed again at 156k miles and this is what I found.

It isn't a big deal at all. It is just those little circular gaskets around the spark plug have developed a small leak. Replace the valve cover gaskets and you will be just fine.

I mean if you want to split hairs that fine, sure there are no tube seals as it's integrated as part of the valve cover gasket. I've done mine before so I'm aware, but they are still there.

the inner gaskets are likely your problem. But while you’re in there replace all gaskets shown, ensure you have all gaskets before having your mechanic start the job.

Job isn’t too bad to do and parts are very cheap.

let us know how it goes!

No hair splitting going on at all.

There are no Spark Plug Tubes to seal. Spark plug tubes are removable items. The Tacoma in this discussion does not have spark plug tubes. The sealing surfaces are cast as part of the cylinder head. The seals are all made in one piece as a valve cover gasket I posted an image above.

This is a spark plug tube that is removable and has seals separate from the valve cover gasket.:

Ohhh that's right. They are part of the head now huh. They are like integrated tubes now. I'm used to dealing with all these old school Hondas/ Mitsubishi's/ Toyotas and similar vehicles where they still did that throughout the mid to later 2000's.

It's not too difficult a DIY job if you're the type or want to learn.

I did mine a year or two back, 250k on my motor, probably around 200k when I did mine, surprised yours were worse but your truck is also 5 years older.

Your coil packs should be just fine, if you're really concerned you can spray a shot of brake cleaner up the tubes to wash off any oil that's made it's way up onto the contact wire.

Also you may be changing your plugs more frequently than you need if you've only had the truck since '18 and done plugs on it twice already.

Any other known or suspected issues with your rig?

Well when i got the truck i didn't have the carfax on the truck so the place where i got the truck got the carfax for me and nothing had really been done to the truck other than oil change's. And routine maintenance. So after I had it about 2 or 3 months I took it to the local Toyota dealership and had everything inspected. They replace the drive belt and some other little minor things nothing major that really needed to be done. They said that they checked the spark plugs and they was fine. Then in April Or May of 2019 I noticed I had poor gas mileage I wasn't even getting 200 miles to tank of gas. So my best friend told me I needed a tune-up change the spark plug clean the throttle body all that good stuff. He said the spark plugs he took out of the trunk was the original spark plugs that came from the factory. After he did all that it ran like a brand new truck. Then about two months ago it started idling high and I had little gas mileage again. So the first thing I thought about it needs another tune-up. So that's what the guy just did about a week ago and then that's when he found the oil on the spark plugs.

While it looks like a “ a big deal”.
It isn’t, it doesn’t require special tools and isn’t much more difficult than changing the spark plugs.
It takes more time, because you have more stuff to move/remove. As far technical difficulty, it not that hard.

I wouldn’t worry about the truck or the engine. It’s fixable, and isn’t a major problem that should be worried about. Just get the gaskets replaced and drive it. It will be fine.

I'm not sure what the confusion is, OP keeps talking about service history and carfax stuff. Valve cover gaskets will leak eventually on any car sooner or later. Doesn't mean you bought a lemon or anything like that

Just replace the v/c gaskets and spark plugs, clean the coil boots or replace them, move on..

Oh I know it's not a real big deal it's just that I'm trying to get it fixed as soon as possible because I'm trying to make a trip to New Orleans to help these people from this hurricane. So the quicker I get it fixed the sooner I can leave.
