2013 TRD OffRoad. Completely stock. Purchased 3 years ago. Just turned 100,000 miles this week. Noticed a clunking noise last week and discovered the driver’s side leaf spring was broken. I measured the wheel well height and both were 35 1/2”. Since both were the same I figured the passenger side was near gone also. I ordered a heavy duty set from General Spring and they came today. I just installed them…3 hours. Had to cut one of the u-bolts but the other three came off relatively easy. One of the brake line bracket bolts snapped and I had to drill and tap it. All in all not bad for a Maine vehicle. As recommended on a you-tube video, before Final torquing, I drove it about a mile on the bumpy road out back, then tightened everything up. I re-measured the wheel wells height and they’re both 38 1/2” now. Seems high. I know they’re heavy duty but was wondering if this height is normal??5AE79D03-4643-4EFC-9809-437B08D9EF67.jpgE4E70AB8-490C-49A4-A18E-5FB14AD3072F.jpg

Heavy duty leaf springs will always net more lift and can feel substantially stiffer without additional weight.

You might be able to remove a leaf to lower it and soften it up a bit.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this the same broken leaf spring condition that is covered under the Toyota recall?

Also, OP when measuring truck height you should be starting from the center of the wheel, not the ground.

From what I’ve read the recall is for years 2005-2010.

measured from the center to the wheel well they are both 24”.

Just did HDplus 3+1 leafs on my 12 TXpro.
Ground to flare was 39” after.
    No spare tire underneath either.
I run 265/75/16 so it gained 1/2” from ground there.
    I ran 500lbs in box for a few weeks now empty it’s 38 3/4.
It’s stiff empty, ride was smoooth with the weight.
I wasn’t looking to lift but looks like some 5100s or 6112 for the front and extended travel 5125s for rear.

5100 and 6112 are bilstien front height adjustable shocks either using heavier springs or a clip setting with lighter springs.
5125 are rear shocks with more travel.
If I did my homework right I gained 2” in the rear from stock I am also 24” from center of wheel. I am using 20 3/4 of my 23” of shock eye to eye on the rear.

Ahh, bummer on the recall. As far as your original question goes and as I'm sure you probably know by now, sounds like you gained ~2" in the rear. I'm going off memory here, but I think ~22" is stock height and also looks to be confirmed by @Jeffch.

Leaf springs were update to prevent the leafs “when cracked” rub against a brake line… replaced a set on my kids taco after the recalled ones cracked … lasted about 200k miles….

I thought it was to prevent potential puncture of the gas tank, but either way I was stoked as I got my new recall leaf springs and frame right around 200k on my truck. Not long after that I freshened it up with 5100s in the front (w/new TRD OR coils) and rear. I do remember my truck's rear end sitting noticeably higher after the leaf springs, which obviously was due to them being new as well as a 4 pack (as I assume my originals were likely the 3 pack).

I have the same leaf packs, General Springs HD. I gained about two inches also. Installed mine about 2,000 miles ago. I can measure tomorrow to get an exact number, but from your photo it looks to be about right. Check out the link in my signature to see mine.

So do these 5100 shocks actually lift the front end or are they just required ‘if’ you lift your front end. If they do lift, if I also put them on my now 2” higher rear, do I set them to 0” so it doesn’t lift more?

Only the front shocks on the 5100s are adjustable. The rear are not and do not provide anymore lift.

You can get lift out of the fronts by adjusting the position of the lower perch, or by using lift springs, or a combination of both to get the front where you want it.

In my case, I have the same leaf packs as you. I’m getting ready to install 5100s myself. I’m leaving my shocks on the lowest setting and using 2.5” lift Eibach springs. This should level my truck pretty well - accounting for the ~2” lift from the leaf packs and about half of the factory rake. I’ll expect to still have a tiny bit of rake which is ideal IMO.

Typed this up quickly while pooping, hope it all makes sense.

Toyota added an extra clip to the '11+ leaf packs to prevent broken leafs from hitting the fuel tank. Toyota didn't make any changes to reduce the likelihood of leafs breaking, at least according to the recall literature. Even the 5-luggers in '05-'10 were excluded from the recall because the spring-under-axle config didn't pose the same fuel tank puncture risk.

Today I installed front 5100s with 3” coil overs from Toytec. Raised the front end so now sits about 1” lower than the rear which I thinks looks right….or would if I got some bigger tires. This broken leaf is getting expensive!

Let them settle for awhile. My Dakar HDs put my rear at 37.5 with my ARE shell on and tools in bed so yes about 38.5 bed empty. When I tow truck is level. 5100s on front with stock springs set to third highest position about 1.75-2" so sits at 35.5 with full skids and another 50lb push bar. Look at the rear brake lines as stock may rip out as rear flexes off road with new springs (fronts too if adding 5100s set up higher than stock). Many posts on ones to buy.

I installed the same leafs earlier this year. I never measured, but I know they settled about an inch lower after few weeks. I run with a canopy on 24/7.
