If you watched the latest top gear this past monday you would have saw that it was a show testing American Trucks. Putting them through some obstacles and trails in Alaska. They had a Chevy, a Dodge, and a Ford. If you truck died you had to drive the "national disgrace" toyota pickup they had following them.

They kept calling the toyota a disgrace and "the import" .

This kind of pisses me off. For two reasons...

1.) My truck was not imported at all, it was built in the USA.

2.) I bought this tacoma because my dodge ram was a POS and always had something wrong with it. So I wanted to see what the "legendary reliablility" was all about with the Tacoma.

I'm Glad I bought my Tacoma, and I am proud of it.

meh, i catch shit from american truck owners all the time. Just gotta realize that you can lift your tacoma with some wheels and tires with the same money they have to spend to repair things breaking on their truck. I know cause i've been there.

Think of it. The "national disgrace" was to drive an "import". They knew the TOYOTA would get them there. :stirthepot:

I didn't see the episode, but... If your truck dies and you have to drive the 'disgraceful' truck who is following, there must be a reason it is following, to pickup after the 'patriotic' trucks

Why were you validating the American version by watching it? Its like watching a bunch of drooling 16 year olds standing around touting the wonders of the American auto industry.

The best part of Top Gear always was the crazy Brits anyway...

Exactly! I find it funny but fitting that they would make a mockery of a fully capable truck... meanwhile they actually verify the reliability/capability of the 'import'

You're surprised the American version is horrible... That show should have never aired, it'll never compare to the BBC version in quality or content.

I have to agree. At first I was a bit ticked, but then you realized that they were driving full-sized, "American" made trucks. Two of which broke, and the Toyota kept right up with them through some very rugged terrain.

So let them bash the truck - if that is what they were doing, I am not yet sure - but we know which truck was right there.

Now, a real test would be to take a 2011 version of an F-150, Silverado, Ram, and Tundra to see which could take the beating.

I have my Taco and love it. Don't plan on trading it anytime soon either.

If you look at it in a different light they were testing American Brand Trucks... and the Hilux was the back up vehicle so they were obviously confident that the Toyota was going to make it... But ya the wording they use could be offensive towards Toyota Truck owners...

x2 After our POS Dodge RAM broke down, we sold it and got the Tacoma, 3 years in and not a single problem.

just watched it and at first I was pissed, about halfway through as the american POS kept failing, I thought ok they are going to show all the american trucks failing because the real point was to show the toyota was the best but alas the producers werent as smart as me and didnt come up with that idea

    BBC Version rocks! American version=fail

Ya its funny how the toyota kept up the whole time, and how they planned on using if as a type of recovery vehicle if they all died.

The show was stupid anyways, how can you compare a 1997 Dodge ram, a 1976 f-250, and a 1980 something chevy? should have been all of the same year trucks going at it.

I remember the british top gear praising the toyota pick up in a couple of different episodes for being "indestructible". Seems to me like the new American version of top gear is extremely biased, and may be getting paid off by GM or something. In all of their episodes of testing vehicles the GM car has won....interesting.

Whatever, just annoying because I know the truth about Toyota.

Look at it this way, they picked the Taco to follow them because they knew those POS would fail and that the Toyota would be there to bail their sorry asses out. I think the greater message of that episode is that when your up to your ass in trouble, pray there is a TOYOTA around to save you...... PERIOD.......
