4.56 Gears + Tires

Hey guys, I've been running 4.56 gears with 33" tires for a long time. The power has been great, MPG not so much. I'm looking to upgrade to 35" tires and have always wondered if going to 35"s would bump my MPG since the tire to gear ratio is much closer to stock. Anyone know the answer?

 

I thought it would be better MPG with the gears you have now. Thats quite odd.

Yeah from what I was told 315s and 4.56s is near stock set-up

 

You're not going to gain anything. You'll go up in tire size but you'll also go up in rotational mass. Your engine will spin at a lower rpm but it'll work harder trying to rotate the tires.

I went from 33's with 4.56 to 35's. Fuel mileage has not changed any. It hasn't gotten worse and hasn't gotten better. If you do gain anything it'll be .5 miles. Which doesn't justify getting new tires just for better gas mileage.

 

you might get a little bit better mpg on the highway but less mpg in town, if anything

is it bad to run 31"x15 or 16"x265 on 4.56 gears on 2006 2.7 5lug for a daily driver? or stick with 4.10

I have 35's with AT - runs very close to stock with 4.56

 

stick with 4.10s if you have 31s
