If you think it's fuel related, start at the basics. In its current non-starting state, check voltage at the fuel pump to see if the pump is getting power. If it's not getting power, it could be the fuel pump relay. If injectors aren't getting fuel, you could check the mfi relay too. When you pulled the 2k plugs, did find anyone that was fouled?

It’s at the mechanic now. I don’t have any more time to troubleshoot. I took the day off of work to do the fuel pump.

Here’s the video showing what it’s doing now. Tries to fire, only gets to about 500 rpm then dies back down. Not sure what can be gathered from this, if anything.

A fuel pressure gauge would have provided useful info

I guess since the mechanic has it, we'll see. Hard to tell from that video. My wife's elantra does the same thing every once in a while because the throttle body motor is weak. So i have to clean her tb with carb cleaner and it works for 6 months before I need to clean it again. When you cleaned your maf, did you clean the tb?

Check the fuel pump relay. You might be able to swap it for another one in the truck-something non-essential like the windows.

I did not, I only cleaned the maf. I should have cleaned the tb as well but the maf was already nearly spotless when I pulled it so I kind of just moved on from that area.

I'm sure it'll end up being something stupid and obvious but that's fine. I don't have a fuel pressure gauge or a scanner, so I was really going at it blindly anyways. I'll provide an update when I hear from them. He said he probably won't even have a chance to look at it until Tuesday :(

I tried that. Fuses and relays were good. I forget which relay I swapped it with but it was unsuccessful.

Quick "kinda" update. I guess my mechanic found some time to take a look at it today.

He called me to say no power is getting to the fuel pump. He didn't know any more than that yet. Wanted to update me before he dug deeper.

The fuel pump power is actually supplied by the Circuit Opening Relay (labeled C/OPN), the fuel pump relay (labeled Fuel Pump) only switches it between high and low speed, both relays are controlled by the PCM.

Really? Great :annoyed:the one I tested was the one labeled fuel pump.

As dumb as I’ll feel, fingers crossed this is all it is.

Got the truck back already. Running strong.

Mechanic said he replaced some melted wires from the fuel pump at the fuse box. He thinks when the fuel pump went bad it was drawing too much power and melted them up. He said he also tightened up a few that felt loose. So fuel pump was indeed bad, but I missed the collateral damage.

I’m wondering if he happened to just incidentally fix the issue I’ve been chasing with my HVAC! :fingerscrossed:
