I know this is an old post and a long shot, but do you happen to remember or have photos of what the rubber seals looked like on the PTR24-35190-AC?
I'm trying to connect a TRD "Snorkel" (purchased from another owner), but it seems to be missing a boot to connect the snorkle intake tube to the intake box

That part definitely exists somewhere. It might be easier to just call your local stealer.

I don't think this is it but It might be

    https://www.oemgenuineparts.com/oem...r0335090ac?c=bD01Jm49RHluYW1pYyBTRU8gUGFnZQ==

    Is it this thing?

    upload_2021-8-17_10-14-43.jpg

I would think it would be more than that.

I wish I could see what this is.

Or I wish I had a damn inspection camera i could stick down there for you.

This piece is part of the stock air box. probably not used with the Desert Air Intake.

 My email preview truncates a lot of the thread title, so I got this one confused with the snorkel head kit that was for sale last year.

I knew I should have bought that. :frusty:

I know Toyota went the football shaped neck so theirs would be proprietary. Otherwise I would have already replaced it with a Donaldson.

So is everything needed to add a snorkel included with ptr24-35190? or do I need PT293-35190 as well?

Thanks for your help! Sorry for the delay...

Unfortunately that scooped intake part, does not fit correctly into the intake tube and is too long to properly connect with the intake box.

    20210817_093805.jpg

    upload_2017-10-9_11-43-42.jpg

I tried using just the "Intake Accelerator" from the TRD intake kit, but the tube wouldn't fit into it and the fender.

    20210817_085153.jpg

So I trimmed the rubber ring you see in the above picture enough so the tube fit into the fender/firewall, but was also long enough to connect the tube and the air box.

    20210817_071640.jpg
    20210818_111115.jpg

Looking at the grooves on the intake tube in the first photo, I believe there's a specific boot which connects the intake tube to the air box. The grooves are similar to the ones on the TRD CAI, which have specific boots and rings to hold them in place.

Great job getting it to work out for you. Back in the day we had a saying.......'fat, skinny, thick or thin, Vaseline will get it in'. I wonder if some other type of lube on the tube would have worked without trimming. Mute point though now of course.

It's funny too, that every time I see that red TRD intake tube I have to wonder why that isn't smooth instead of pleated. Do these engines have that much torque that it needs to flex all of that?

Thanks! Overall I'm very happy with it! Vaseline or a lube, probably would have worked. The 3rd photo shows what I needed to trim, the two large humps on the end of the tube sit against the firewall, so I'm not entirely sure it would have fit properly even if I had spit on it and shoved it in .
There's absolutely no room to adjust the intake tube because it bolts into the firewall in a specific location. There's also no adjustment on the how the "snorkle" sits on the fender, which leaves zero wiggle room.

But it's on! I'm not sure the connections are watertight, so I'd like to find the OEM boot...or use some flexseal tape over both ends of the boot I did use :notsure:

I was wondering why those boots are pleated also, I figured even the smooth ones would still flex enough. I guess the TRD team knows best.

Yea, making it fit is all that matters. I wonder if some construction grade silicone would help seal it and make it watertight? I was riding through some high water on the road once too fast and the water came up high enough and long enough to feel the effect of a little water getting in the snorkel head. Scared the hell outta me. That was when I started looking into how to convert it to accept a more protected system like the Donaldson Pre Filter head. Plus I hate not being able to run it through the touchless car wash. I just don't trust the drainage holes to adequately work with all that spray.

Yea, I like the pleated tube look, and I know a smooth tube (like the HPS Silicone version) doesn't really offer any performance gains. Just always makes me wonder. I also hate that Toyota in their infinite wisdom left the TRD intake off a TRD Pro with a Desert Air Intake installed at the factory. Dumb!

I agree making it fit is all that really matters (kind of, lol). I hadn't thought about the construction grade silicone, that might actually be easier to get around both connections as opposed to the flexseal tape.
How much water did you get in there?! I've driven in two very heavy rain storms and had zero issues, I imagine it went through a lot of R&D before being put on the trucks :notsure: to ensure water would not make it's way into the engine. Was it just the volume of water which restricted the air flow that you felt or did your air filter actually get wet? That would definitely be a scary moment!
I would absolutely prefer a Pre-Filter head, I am a bit surprised no one has made a replacement top for the "snorkle"!

I guess I just realized you're running a Pro and I assume with the "snorkle", could you take a pic of what the connection between your airbox and firewall/fender looks like?

    Sup Paul,
The silicone would also act as a lube if the fit was still very tight.

How much is hard to say......enough to make it gasp and me to feel it in the pedal. It was during a downpour, and the area always has standing water. It was probably about 4" deep. The biggest issue was my dumb ass hitting it at too high of a speed, and what was obviously fast enough for it to not only come up over the hood and onto the windshield, but high enough to get in there. A smarter person would take the time to reverse the head like it's designed to do in severe snow storms, and in my case, rain.

I run a oiled K&N in the box, so I think it was mostly restriction and not penetration. I too it easy after that and let it coast as much as possible. It does make me wonder about long drives in the heavier rains though.

Yea, as soon as you posted and I got involved I went out and looked at mine but there's no way to see anything. I even tried to pull the fender liner back out of the way but didn't want to break any clips. Up top in the engine bay is even harder to see. That's why I said I wish I had an inspection cam. I saw one recently too on Amazon during their sale and almost got it. I should have. I'll go out and take a couple pics for you anyway. Maybe I am looking right at it.

Airaid has a snorkel now too (the main body is disgusting looking the more I see it) and it appears they were able to get a more round connection to the head. Which looks like a Toyota ripoff design for sure.

    https://tacomabeast.com/products/toyota-tacoma-airaid-snorkel-kit

I think anyone with access to a 3D printer could mate the oval shape to a round fitting for the Donaldson. The biggest challenge would be to make sure it stayed together. Especially on the trail in heavy brush. My face plate, on the head popped off one day on the road. I didn't even realize it. Or someone took it. So I had to make my own. It's horrendous but it keeps the birds from building nests in there. I also tried using a black nylon over it (don't tell the wife I cut up her dress leggings) but that looked even more silly. So now I a not sure what to do. Buy an entirely new head or come up with a decent looking design............

    It all started like this..........

I found a birds nest in the head one day (size 10 EE wide boot)
    upload_2021-9-3_14-49-40.jpg

So I added this stretched metal screen (which is likely why it popped off)
    upload_2021-9-3_14-50-51.jpg

Then the stocking to get me by (this was pathetic but effective)......
    upload_2021-9-3_14-55-31.jpg

Then I decided to make my own cover (completely reinforces what experts say about people that drink too much doing the dumbest shit).......
    upload_2021-9-3_14-57-44.jpgupload_2021-9-3_14-58-10.jpg

Of course the more alcohol you have the more you have, and I tried to make it look better................
    upload_2021-9-3_14-59-18.jpg

But that damn thing is so heavy I was afraid the whole head would come off, so that came off, I painted it red, and added a metal emblem I had lying around.........
    upload_2021-9-3_15-2-14.jpg

But I am not happy about this either and would love to go back to OEM. Or something, anything, cleaner than this. Like the Donaldson. Or maybe just remove that emblem and paint this black.

@RobP62 I'm sorry I didn't put 1 and 1 together and realize it was you I had been talking with all along.

I appreciate you trying to take a look between the fenders! What might be easier is just to look under the hood at the connection between the airbox and the fender and see what that looks like, right near the windshield fluid reseroir. (If you have time)

Here's what mine looked like before I cut the "Intake Accelerator" from the TRD CAI kit to make them connect. This is under the hood, the airbox on the right, you can see the windshield fluid reservoir on the bottom.

    20210817_071640.jpg

I'm glad to hear you didn't have any more issues after hitting the puddle a little hard! I may learn from you and turn mine around if it's supposed to have heavy rain, I already plan on turning it around for snow. Heavy snow is the reason the original owner got rid of it, he lives in upstate NY and it just didn't make any sense for him to keep it on there, lol.

I hope no one stole the TRD emblem off it, I have head of people stealing the entire head though so it wouldn't surprise me. Hopefully it was due to the screen you put under it. I can't believe a bird decided to make a nest in it!!! That's crazy! The stocking actually looks pretty good...well if it didn't have the giant sad face hole, lol! If you wife has some fishnets...maybe you could try those instead :notsure: (I won't say anything).
I think you did a great job with making the screen! I would've just sprayed it black and called it a day! You could probably use a stencil and spray TRD on it too. Can you even purchase the head for these? I haven't seen a parts list for them, just the intake tube and the whole kit. I was hoping someone would make a prefilter head, maybe if they were around for more than 1 year someone would have.

The airaid doesn't look too bad to me, I think that's because it looks similar to the TRD one...the top does look like it was copied, lol. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a 3D printer, I was going to get one, but I don't have the talent or skills to create stuff like that lol!

Thanks again for all your help!
