1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

So I left my phone (flashlight) on my lower control arm last night as I took the truck out for a test drive. I realized 15 minutes later my idiocy as I was about to go to home depot, so I stopped everything and started combing the streets. Probably made 4 passes around my loop - 3 in the car, 1 on foot, couldn't find it. An hour after the test drive, my girlfriend rings my doorbell and hands me my phone. Turns out a neighbor had seen it all the way down at the end of my street (by the first turn) on his way to the gym and called her with it.
More than anything I'm shocked it made it that far without falling. Not a single crack on the phone either. The flashlight must have still been on when the guy found it.

Basically take the piece that bolts onto the side of the truck, flip it upside down, used a 3" flex tubing IIRC and cut into the engine bay sheet metal. It finally failed 3 years later because of rust and vibration and I ended up with this:

If I were to do it again I would get the ebay snorkel and be done with it.

thank you for such a thorough response brotha. I thrash the slug hard so if you'd go the ebay snorkel route instead of doing all the work, I'll consider that instead. Just think the truck will look silly with a snorkel, but the functionality cant be beat. will try to cut my fender liners and repurpose them to work, self tap em till i can afford a dorkel.

Do you not have fender liners? I lost mine after tubbing but I figured fender liners would have kept mud out. Do you have that long tube we have?

I left my phone on my ARB once and only noticed like 20 minutes down the road. Didn’t fall. Not so lucky with a few other items/tools I’ve left on the bumper over the years. Retracing the route is the most stressful thing ever. Especially since it’s either daytime traffic or poor visibility at night.

My 03 XCab has a double slider rear window but I wouldn't try climbing through it even though it's really easy to pop the locked latch.
I once bought a $1 bamboo back scratcher to get the keys out of ignition through the sliders.
Everyone needs a bamboo back scratcher

 

The back windows of access cabs are pretty easy to pop open and unhinge too

 

I wonder if it was a difference in trim models in later years, weird. Or maybe it got replaced with the double one at some point? I haven't seen a later year 1st gen with the double sliders before
