My bestfriend helped me last minute as he has 3 kids and had to go to/from picking them up.

    The worst part?

I had reserved my Uhaul Aug 14th, for today Sept 2nd.

Pick up was at a Shell, in my town Salinas.

Went there and apparently they stopped doing Uhaul convenience for months now.

End up going to an authorized dealer (mind you, my friend is the one driving me everywhere and has to go soon), and after 46mins wasted, find out my reservation has to be picked up in Monterey....25mins away

It's been a long and frustrating day but fortunately I'm good on time.

Worst part before leaving? My front diff on my 4R is leaking like crazy so I'll inspect it come tomorrow when I come back to Salinas from Fresno.

Oh that sucks ass. I had a similar experience trying to return one. Went to the gas station and they said they hadn't been doing that for months. Had to spend another 30 mins finding one, just to be told I have to return it to the one I rented from or face like $100 fee. I have a love/hate relationship with Uhaul. Their operations are ass, their customer service is ass, their 3rd parties are shit, truck quality is a toss-up but their trailer pickups and returns are really easy. Luckily I wasn't the one dealing with that crap this last time.

Oof yeah if you're bogging through mud and water without fender liners and a stock intake, you're gonna have a bad time

U-Haul locations are all independent franchises, so the experience depends almost entirely on what shop you go to. The best U-Haul experience I've had was from a shop that also did flower arrangements and had a sort of ping pong dojo in the back.

Last time I did a point-to-point move, I used Penske. I don't remember the details, but the price or rental terms were more appealing than U-Haul. My nearest pickup spot was the pro services counter at Home Depot, which also turned out to be a pretty good experience.

Yeah you really need to on the passenger side at least. The intake is sucking up everything your tires are kicking up and then some, without the liner there. Literally the only thing keeping your engine from taking it all in is the air filter which can only do so much.

I only suck air from that tube when i cap the deck plate on trails, luckily. But yes after my last trip there was shit all on the filter and in the intake box. Luckily the filter wasnt completely soaked but it worries me like you said

yeah I have a friend with a 2nd gen that almost hydrolocked his 4.0 when we all went through a med sized water pit on the trail a few years ago. He'd taken his liners off to fit 35s but didn't realize the intake was exposed.

Truck stalled out and wouldn't start, pulled the air filter out and it was wetter than a cucumber in a sorority house. His truck started after removing the air filter but ran rough for awhile.

he ended up getting a snorkel

What's the best way to clean that out?

I'm thinking about soaking it in a tub of purple power
