hmmm yeah there are some settings that could affect that.

It's crazy how much adjustment (and how many problems) these cutters can create. Hard area to break into.

 

yeah man, yours is as real as any. If it gets you out into the woods so you can play and relax and you're happy with it does it matter what anyone else has to say ??

 

Maybe once its done. Its been capped at 4psi (wastegate pressure) until I can work out all the bugs. I had a GT35 before btw

 

What are you running for tuning?


I'm pushing about 32 PSI max boost

 

Goddamn you must have a 4cyl. Just the split second piggyback. Eventually I want to get a standalone but we'll see. I'll be running 15psi, which gets me to the edge of these turbos, the stock engine, and the piggyback.

I've always been a bit bummed by the stock 3.4 and planned on doing a UZ swap instead of adding boost but I sold my donor car. That is a super cool setup, how do you like the drive-ability?

 

Ah you got me lol. It's very responsive with the small pair vs the big GT35, highly recommend smaller - even a single.
I still think 1st gear is too short and the transition to 2nd is too tall. Boost builds really early: around 2500 in 1st, but its not until 2nd and 3rd that you really feel it. Contrast to the GT35 that you didn't feel until 3500 in 3rd or 3000 in 4th (highway). If I was to build the motor, I'd go up in base compression and really focus on standalone ECU timing. Toyota really did us a disservice I think with the base tune and pistons. Having control over timing advance I feel will make night and day difference in not only responsiveness and power, but fuel economy as well. Also if someone made a shorty intake plenum for the v6, I think that would free up some power in the midrange/higher RPM and not sacrifice much on the low.

The stock tuning is pretty lackluster given what the internals can take. I'm sure they tuned it for economy and reliability but it still sucks powerwise, even with the supercharger... That said chevy's 4.3l can put down much better numbers and still be reliable and they aren't spectacularly built internally either.

Nothing has changed, 3rd gens are mashed potatoes engine and transmission to meet emissions standards just the same. Everyone raves about how they drive with a tune, though. Based on a letter I got from FOMOCO CA/MD are checking ECU tunes even on emissions intact vehicles now and will fail if it's not a stock program even if it passes the sniffer. crazy

 

I wasted so much vinyl trying to get my prints right. Even setting the needle depth was hard. I use post its to set the needle depth, when it cuts around 3 post its and not the 4th one that's good.

I hear you, it took me hours and hours over several weeks/months to get my shit dialed in before I could reliable make

 

The only two decent prints I've done was my Boeing 737 cowling lettering, and the name for the Bayliner. Took a bunch of tries though.

 

are you still planning any changes or going to run it as is?

 

the vinyl itself can make a big difference, Amazon special stuff is way more finicky than Oracal

 

I mean I've been running at 4psi since I finished the duct work like a year ago. I turned my focus to aesthetics (paint, wheels, tires) and stability (currently need to fix my brakes and replace LCA bushings). I do plan to tune it up to 15/16psi like I mentioned, but my wideband broke and I need to make an O2 simulator for street tuning. Really its just been enough to make trips to Lowes for lumber over the last year, but I do have a lot of work planned for it still....but probably not on the engine side - that should be done until something breaks.
I need to do a 4x4 conversion eventually as well. I want rock sliders, a full steel plate undercarriage, maybe a tent or just a canvas over the truck rack, need to redo the interior again etc..

Really I just have too many projects and not enough time or money. Bought the truck 6 years ago as a way to learn about cars; since then have graduated college, started a career, bought a house (which I've been renovating non-stop almost since purchase), and acquired 3 other cars. Not enough of me to go around now lol
