Not only that, but when I go into the IRS website, it still shows my refund status from last year. For the last week, I can't even get into that site, nor can I get hold by phone. I feel like I'm getting into trouble here. Anyone else still in the dark with this?

Me neither! This is why I'm trying to see if I'm not the only one.

Did you self file or did you use a service?

Maybe talk to a tax attorney about your options.

I almost always get mine back before end of March. But I try to target my withholdings during the year to get the smallest possible refund too.

I owed extra taxes this year and they were collected promptly. That side of things always seems to function just fine

I file myself-have my whole life. I mailed them out in May, both state and fed together. I don't know at this point if it's "f**k the IRS" or "f**k the USPS".

Mine didnt show up until a couple months ago.. maybe a month.. i dont remember now. And in spite of being a student, homeowner, full time employee of a huge company etc etc and nothing changing they were kind enough to remove about $1200 from my refund without saying why. When I tried to call I got crickets. Legal theft, always a good time. I don’t know why yours would be taking so long but mine took effin forever this year as well with no explanation.

Have you considered a visit to the nearest IRS office???

Be sure to take copies of your tax and supporting documents.

I've been reading the 'net and they say COVID screwed up the IRS because of the stimulus and short staff/heavy loads. But I can't see how it'd take this long. And they gotta know I filed as my state refund came in June and you need the fed totals to file state. Plus, I'm owed a refund so why wouldn't I file?
I wish I knew what to do from here except sit and wait. They have this all locked up where you can't possibly get hold of them.

I called H&R Block just now and she said the IRS is still way behind on paper filings, which I do.

No issues with our return this year. We had to file an extension because I was waiting on some financial paperwork so we filed very late but our refund came through recently without issue. It took a bit longer than in prior years but with COVID and all the tax code changes that occurred I expected it was going to move slowly. I was actually pleasantly surprised it went as quick as it did.

Did you E-file or did you paper file like me?

E-File. I don't think I've ever filed paper taxes, seems risky and slow to me. But that makes more sense. I bet with all the remote workers right now there's a massive pile of unreviewed mail-in tax returns sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

Yeah my stepson E-filed too and got his refund in July. I'm probably sitting under a pile collecting dust bunnies right now.

Millions of tax refunds haven't been processed. You are not alone. I haven't received mine either. I finally figured out it was my incompetent tax preparer. They failed to submit it for months, while they swore it was e-filed. It's really messed up irs is holding on to people's money.

E-file is the only way I do it anymore, also.

I'm a fan of turbo-tax. Their software makes it easy and helps me catch stuff that I would otherwise miss. Very much worth the 50-75 bucks, depending how complicated mine are from year to year. I usually use it to draft up a standard deduction vs itemized, then I file whichever one is most advantageous.
