    — A cow was rescued from a tree after floodwaters from Hurricane Ida caused the animal to become stuck in the branches. In a video shared online, employees of St. Bernard Parish government cut the tree limbs around the animal in order to help free the cow. The employees used a chainsaw while standing in water nearly waist deep.

    2 questions:

    1. Why would any business stay there?

    2. Why would any insurance company insure a business that stays there? :notsure:

It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find that SF is paying businesses to continue in those locations.

I would imagine that a few folks skipping out the door with $1k of stuff on a regular basis makes the P&L statement pretty difficult.

    1. They aren't. A recent poll showed half of San Francisco's residents have plans to leave in the next year. That's only going to go up. Detroit is a good example of this.

    2. Because it's insurance, and they can just keep raising their premiums.

Walgreens has pulled out of SF completely because of their theft laws and their effect on the P&L. Others have changed their hours to close early and others are going the bodega route. Bars on the windows and doors and the door's lock is electric so that they can buzz you in and out.

But look at the bright side. Real estate prices will go down. A house like THIS in California is still going for 150k+.

I've heard the Walgreens statement from several different people. I work in SF and there is a Walgreens right next to the train station, so not sure but definitely not "Completely". The city is horrible though. I've seen some stuff that has blown my mind. If I kept my phone on camera at the ready I could probably post something new here a couple times a week.

You could promise not to shoot anybody cuz your human poop patrol job is stressful.

The city of SanFrancisco has created a new "poop patrol" to cleanup its streets because everyone there is really tired of dodging shit on the sidewalks. The new program will include a team of six people using pressure washers and steam cleaners to scrubaway the feces, according to SanFrancisco Public Works spokesperson Rachel Gordon.

Lawyer Says Man Who Stole Viagra Is 'Not A Hardened Criminal'

    Claire Reid

A lawyer defending a man who was caught nicking a box of Viagra told the court his client was 'not a hardened criminal'. This guy clearly saw his shot and took it, didn't he?
Stephen Cooper, 46, stole a packet of Viagra from a branch of Lloyds Pharmacy in Leek in Staffordshire.
According to the Stoke Sentinel, Cooper said he needed the Viagra after starting a new relationship with a woman.

At North Staffordshire Justice Centre, Prosecutor Karen Wright told the court police had discovered £10 worth of cannabis at Cooper's property just eight days before the theft on 11 March.
On the 19 March he was seen entering the pharmacy and helping himself to a box of Viagra - having been spotted by staff trying to do the same weeks earlier.Wright said: "Four weeks before that he had gone to the pharmacy and tried to steal four packets of Viagra. He apologised. The shop did not tell the police but banned him as they have a zero tolerance policy and he left the pharmacy.
"On March 19 staff noticed him inside the store.
"They saw him place a packet of Viagra into a bag and run out of the shop."
During his police interview, he admitted the cannabis was his and also admitted shoplifting. He told cops he had intended to steal the medication when he went in and that the tablets were for himself.
In mitigation Iain Haley told the court Cooper had had no convictions between 2000 and this year, but admitted his client had 'fallen off the wagon' in 2021.

He told the court: "He formed a relationship and needed the Viagra to enable him to keep up with the young woman he had formed the relationship with.
"He is not a hardened criminal."
Appearing in court, Cooper was handed a 12 month conditional discharge.
He was also ordered to pay £35 in compensation and a £22 surcharge. His £10 worth of cannabis was confiscated and destroyed.
