I have quite a few friends who smoke..I actually grow a little of it for my wife.

Same, my folks tried to tell me for years. I learned when I was ready to learn.

I used to have people ask me to sell to them..same, the long hair thing

Reminds me, I'm overdue for some ink

Respect to you guys who overcame you problems and are strong enough to share.

Never smoked, never saw the attraction.

Never drank much as I spent almost every waking hour of my life working (I'm a dumbass I learned) also probably because drinking is usually a social thing and I'm not much for crowds.

Once in a while I might have a vodka cranberry juice -- I'm usually asleep before I finish it -- yeah, life with me is one adventure after another. :anonymous:

Well thank you but, the congratulations are to you. I never had to overcome it like you or @ABA180 and others did.

My wife was both a heavy drinker and smoked both things, she developed a medical condition that required her to stop all of it literally overnight. It has been eye opening to really walk that path with someone.

The VW vans and trucks go for insane money now.
Owner could probably just about sell that and buy a new Tacoma.

I smoke a little, drink a little, but keep it all low key and out of peoples business so it's all good.
My best man at my wedding was and is one of my best friends and an awesome guy and he's never touched either which is just fine.

I drank hard from 15-23, and not just the goofin around kind of drinking; there were many days I would drink 25-30+ . I smoked a couple of packs a day during that time as well. Smoked a little weed (but not much, it just made me sleepy) and did a few other things that I won't mention.:anonymous:
I replaced the cigs with chew, which probably isn't much better but I don't want to get huge either.
Side note: I drank a beer last night (because after 30 years of being sober, I no longer worry about being able to control myself).
Review: it tasted exactly like beer.:puke:

I have never smoked anything. I do drink a little here and there, mostly camping and family gatherings. But it’s not a drink to get drunk. One or two and I start drinking water. Some of my family drink heavily most days and just doesn’t look fun. I know my limits and know when to stop.

We went to the inlaws lake house last Saturday, got there about 3 and my FIL had a few beers, no big deal, he's 6' 4" and around 250 lbs. He says later on after several more "who wants to go for a boat ride, Shane can drive" He knows we won't let him drive anything after drinking with our kids involved.

I've never driven a boat in my life other than my 14' jon boat with a trolling motor on a small farm pond.

We load up on their 25' pontoon and he tells me what to do, I didn't go fast at all, was just cruising around and my MIL said something about going so slow. Whatever.

We get back to the dock, they have a dock that goes around 3 sides of the boat with about 16" of clearance. First attempt I had to put it in reverse and back up, wasn't going to make it. MIL is in panic mode, second attempt I got it in and parked. FIL says not too bad, I said thanks, that's my first time ever driving a boat. The look on their face was priceless.

Not surprised you could wing it Shane with all the other equipment you drive. When I bought my boat with my buddy a couple years ago I had only driven boats a few times for a few minutes at a time and same for him but we both got the hang of it pretty quick. Docking is definitely the trickiest, but I was never embarrassed to back up and try again as much as needed. It was also the first thing I've ever towed, and luckily I picked up on backing the trailer up pretty quick too. I actually find that more difficult than driving a boat.

We're going back tomorrow evening and staying until Monday, I suspect I'll be ask to drive again. My biggest thing is I don't want to drive if there's a lot of boats on the water and with it being a holiday weekend I suspect it will be crowded.

I've driven a lot of stuff, from push mowers to trackhoes/dozers/firetrucks, etc. Dad got me started young on the mower/tractor just like I have with Cole (9) and he can back his little mower trailer like a champ. That pays off starting young

I'll just say its a lot easier driving a boat when your controls are lubricated properly. When that throttle cable starts corroding its tough to be smooth.

There's a few restaurants down here that sit beside ramps where people drop in offshore rigs with tall casting towers that double as wind sails, watching people drop and pick up is pure comedy.

Since I was born after 1982 (I don't know why the rules are structured this way) I had to take a boater safety certification online course before I was legal to operate a boat solo. I'm really glad I did, there are so many things I wouldn't have known even though I could operate the boat just fine such as how passing works, or emergency signaling, etc. For going out with other boaters present though, the basics can be gathered pretty quickly as long as no one forgets there are no brakes lol.

I figured out docking the boat is easy enough from a lake, putting it on the trailer same same, now doing either one of those in a river moving 7-8 mph a little more tricky.

My dad tried to quit smoking on and off over the years. After my son was diagnosed with CF, I told him if he wanted to see him, he had to stop smoking. He had his last cigarette that day, went to a hypnotist and never smoked again.
