2021 Speaker upgrade (Please help)

Ok I have a 2021 TRD Sport Double Cab. The sound is probably one of the worst sound systems I have ever heard. I am looking at upgrading. The biggest problem I am having is that it seems every site seems to think the 2021 has a different set up then the rest of the 3rd gens.
So here is what I need help with.
A. I do not want to change the factory head unit (non JBL)
B. I want to put in front and rear door speakers. Are they still 6x9 in the front and 6.5 rear?
C. I want to put a small amp in between the speakers and headunit but still utilize the factory wiring. Is there a wire adapter that attaches to the factory wiring to do this?

 

Sub’d due to interest in this same simple mod.
I don’t need 1000w amp & subwoofer. Just a bit of an improvement…

 

I did the plug&play Tweeter upgrade. Did not replace the door speakers. I added an underseat 8" powered Sub. Spliced the rear door speaker wires for the Sub, since you can barely hear them anyways.

Their prices are kinda obscene imo. Could likely put together a better system for cheaper if I could find the specs.

 

They are a bit expensive. I’ve heard their system and it sounds very good. But it is probably the only true plug and play out there. Zero splicing in which is always nice.

 

I have installed Kicker DS Series speakers in the doors, the Kicker tweeters and have that running through an Apline

$320 KTP-445U Universal Power Pack Amplifier

KTP-445U 4channel amp sitting right behind the headunit. Then I made a fibreglass box in the right rear pocket behind the the rear seat and put a Cerwin Vega HS-102D 10" shallow mount sub in there powered by a Hertz DPower 1 Mono amp. Cheap and the amps are deck line in so no need for RCA's or line converters. I am quite happy with the set up. I just finished the box last week so I still have to tune after the sub breaks in.

 

yes they’re still 6x9 and 6.5
i haven’t added an amp for the rear speakers yet but that’s on my todo list
i’ve replaced speakers and tweeters with kickers as well but still not that great of an improvement.

definitely need either an aftermarket head unit or the amp for the speakers

 

Did you find a cable to wire that amp in plug and play or did you have to cut the factory wire harness?

 

Metra harness kits made the wiring install plug and play.

Metra makes harness kits to make everything plug and play. I selected my speakers on crutchfield to get part #'s for metra wiring kits since they throw them in if needed with every purchase. Rear speaker adapters are different in 2021's and maybe 2020's than earlier 3rd gen's. I replaced all 6 speakers with infinity reference powered by a kicker key under passenger seat and put an 8" kicker hideaway under driver's seat. taco tuuuunnnneeezz sells a wiring harness that plugs into the back of the headunit to wire everything up. 0 factory wires spliced everything plugged straight in.

 

Could you share the metra harness that you picked up?

Will this work on a 2021? Everything I see says basically nothing fits.

 

I have no problem wit the sound of my system but then I am not 18 years old where it has to blast you out of the cab lol.

 

Imagine thinking the only sound problem is how loud it gets.....

 

I am not 18 anymore either, by a long shot... what I have done to my system just makes it sound cleaner and clearer at lower volumes. It is nice to be able to hear it cleaner when the windows are down too. Road noise used to drown out the music. If you are happy with your system then that is good. Less effort required for you to adjust or upgrade it.

 

I dont see why not but to be sure, you can pull out your radio and see if it has the same plugs. Toyota has been using these same plugs for their radios since the mid eighties.
