Currently have a nikon d3000 and thinking of trading for the Canon EOS Rebel XS after shooting with my friends this past weekend. All you photographers out there, what do you think? Pros? Cons? Good Trade?

    Thanks in Advance!

if the Canon feels more comfortable in your hands, then go for it... personal comfort is a significant factor in image production...

Did you purchase any nikon glass (lenses) because really its about investing in the glass and once you have the glass the body is locked in

that would be stupid imo. i dont understand why you would do that. canon makes a great camera and so does nikon. but if the canon feels better go for it.

a few things to check for in the canon though:
How many shutter actuations have gone through it? IMO if its 10,000-15,000 + i would be cautious.
    check for body damage.
check the focus screen (the little plastic square above the mirror inside the camera)
check for dust/dirt on the image sensor.
check the lens make sure theres no rattles and no sticking/squeaking problems.
    etc etc

Good fucking thread...I have always been a huge fan of Canon but their digital cameras suck (then again I put their digital cameras through Iraq). I also use Canon's for work with multiple lens' and nice attachments. Nikon has always provided attachments for a better price though. I've used Canon's since I was about 14 and have not had a bad experience. But, I've used Nikons a few times here and there and not experienced any problems. I just bought my wife a Canon EOS Rebel XS with a stock lens (hope to move to a high lens soon) and I love it. I told her I bought it so she can get her pictures for that facebook thing kids are using now-a-days, but honestly I just wanted a badass camera and Canon always offers that.

If the D3000 is still in working condition and you have no need to purchase a new one, I would say stick with it until you "accidentally" drop it then buy a Canon. Either way, both companies make extraordinary cameras...

Take the money you would spend on a Canon and buy a 70-300mm lens. All in all, just understand how to use the aperture...and F-Stop if not digital...Nikon or Canon, or some old piece of shit you find in pawn shop doesn't matter...just get creative with the camera...Film photography is the best (fuck with the film and you get awesome results without using photoshop).

d3000 to rebel xs is a bit of a downgrade IMO.

look at the T1i or even better, the T2i if you like the feel of the canons better.

what exactly don't you like about the nikon though?

But what if you're super drunk using a clicker for a porn scene and you go back through your camera and accidentally hit the "delete" button? Never thought of that did you?

honestly as stupid as that is, i HATE that about canon.

but im sure some people love it, its all a matter of opinion. if someone say nikon is better than canon or vise versa give them a swift kick to the nuts because they dont know what they are talking about. both make great cameras.. but in the end it doesnt matter if you have a canon 400D or a Nikon D3x it all depends on what lenses you have. invest in good glass. thats what makes the photos.

Stick with the D3000. Get a 35 or 50 f/1.8. And then a nice zoom (55-200 WITH VR).
