I hauled a pallet of travertine tile about 15 miles. A forklift put it in the bed. I was about 1/2 inch off the bump stops. I took a picture but can't find it. That was 7 years ago and I've never had any issues. I have the standard 4 leaf springs.

This just reminds me of a story from the plywood mill I used to work at. An employee with a toyota pickup (80s style) had a full unit of plywood dropped in the back of it to take home. It was completely bottomed out, but he lived nearby and figured it would be fine. He made it only a short distance up the road and somehow lost control and drove off the road. The sudden stop caused the ~4800lbs of plywood to say hello to the engine bay, destroying everything in between...

I hauled 2 Kawasaki KLR 650's. 2 fat dudes, and all our camping gear for a 2 week trip from Middle TN to Denver, CO, down to South TX, and back to Middle TN more than once. Easily 1000 lbs just in the bed.

2017 Tacoma SR Access Cab Long Bed 2.7, 5mt, 4x4, stock other than some 32's on TRD FJ wheels.
It struggled a bit in the hills, but really wasn't too bad.

    Half a yard of compost.
Dropped the bed by about 1.75 inches, which was better than I figured it would be...
    ( or is it ? )

Ran in ECT mode and the truck handled it well... all flat roads here in the desert.

Laid down a blue tarp, worked well cleanup was easy... used a wagon and 2 five gallon buckets - filled those and
then pulled them to the final resting place. Pretty easy work since the bed of the truck was about level to the top of
the 5-gallon buckets moving a shovel full from the bed to the buckets was a breeze. I completed the task over
an evening after dinner ( cooled down to chilly 104 degrees ) and the next morning before temps hit 100 and the rest
that evening. Can't do diddly late-morning to late-afternoon as temps get really high.

If it were cooler I'd have knocked it all out in one fell swoop taking it easy over a period of 3-4 hours. A younger
man could do it in 2 hours busting azz.

Mine was a scoop of fancy rock for our planter. It was definitely too much weight — probably 1,500lbs — but I drove slowly with it and laughed at the fuel economy.

LOL at (with?) the guys with trucks that never use their beds though.

yup. comes to right about 1000lbs. but that doesn't include the stuff I'll put inside it. Fridge (and contents), Stove, 20lbs propane, 5 gallons water. Camping supplies, Dishes, clothes, etc etc etc.

Am I allowed to post here if I don't have a 3rd gen?

I got an engine from another tacoma in the bed of my 02 taco and drove it across 3 states. Is that heavy?

My truck has 1200 lbs payload. I wouldn't worry about 1500 lbs occasionally for a short trip. Never actually weighed it, but I've had firewood on there a few times that probably was near or over 1500 lbs. Not something I'd recommend on a regular basis, or for a cross country trip.
