I didn’t even think of it when I moved mine forward. I set it up with the pivot kit all the way back first, changed my mind and moved them forward. I was confused why it sat so low until I thought about what changed. Just crank up your drivers side a little bit more.

Question for the class- looking at a high clearance front bumper (crossmember is gone) for my Taco and a low key bumper for my wife's FJ. I wanted to go the Coastal Offroad route, but if I'm going to do that much work/welding I'll buy a bender and single die and make exactly what I want. Demello makes a flat top that looks like a good slim choice for her FJ, but I didn't see anything I liked for the Taco. Any other options out there? Would like to choose one place for both, but with mine being high clearance I don't know if that is feasible.

No one is going to make a high clearance one for the taco missing the cross member. That’s will have to be a custom built one for sure. Otherwise you’ll be heavily modifying anything else you buy

Maybe crossmember isn’t the right name for it. That low hanging thing where the toe hook and tie down are from the factory. Coastal makes one for it, but not sure who else.

You are correct and that is a new item for them. I would assume that is your only option other than a full custom one or heavily modifying any others

    Yes
Coastal actually does, they call it their " extreme clearance " bumper and they have skids for it too.

Yeah that skid looks a little too steep for my taste. I’ll sacrifice a little clearance there for more slope. Would be like hitting a brick wall if you had any momentum.

Yeah that skid ain’t purdy. I like how tucked away the bumper is though. The Bubba Gump chin I have to look at everyday is wearing on my aesthetic.

I can just picture eating the steering wheel. That angle is absolutely brutal and I'm not sure how they even call it a skid lol

That bumper actually has some potential. The top half is how I’ve modified the pelf bumpers in the past. You could start with that bumper and then add tubes from the LCA pivot kit up to the bottom of the frame and then add your own skid.

I have made something similar already so I might not have to do much to make it fit. My skid terminates right in front of the bolts like the one you posted. Instead of tube I tapered the edge of the skid and used some little c channel in the middle. tube would have been better at strengthening the frame horns though.

Warfab has their frame tuck plate for starting your own bumper build. they also have one I think for the tucked frame.

the demello offroad bumpers actually end "above" that lower cross member -- i don't know how height you get, but it might be a good starting point.

I think that skid is extra ugly because it a, starts further back towards the rear of the vehicle instead of right at the (new) crossmember, and b, drops WELL below the LCA pivots. Both of those facts make it very strange looking

Was thinking the same myself. The bumper itself doesn't look too bad and would save having to cut up another manufacturer's design. Then just build the skid yourself.

Agreed, I like everything about the bumper except this:

I wish those were on the "inside" of the bumper shell, but I'm sure that's just because I'm tired of road debris/salt destroying every fastener on my vehicle.

I'm friends with the owner of coastal off road. I could talk to him about doing some redesigns if you guys have ideas for that bumper.

I think I have two of his high clearance bumper kits at my shop right now. One is half welded, but I just tacked it together, then let a friend practice his welding on it so it's not the prettiest. It's only the center section, but I would give it away. My plan was to use the center winch section on my truck, then build tube wings and a skid for it.

The other one is his prototype of the high clearance, and it's not welded at all yet and might be missing a couple pieces, but it's the full bumper I'm pretty sure.

I think I might end up just making a full tube front bumper for my truck. Haven't had time to think about it yet.

But yeah I never told him my true feelings about the skid haha
