I zoom in it looks thick enough shouldn't have any problems. Sometimes I'll stick a smaller piece of round stock in the drill chuck to catch the part. Saves digging it out of the chip basket.

It's roughly 1.5 mm thick wall, and thankfully they landed right on the chip cover so no digging required.

Once I got the motions figured out and the tooling set, it took 35-40 minutes for the second bushing.

That's darn good. Before long those types of jobs be easy peasy and take you a fraction of the time and your accuracy will improve.
If I get shop time Tuesday I'll post some pictures of different ways to use a dial indicator for accuracy.

Have the tooling set up is paramount to efficiency, or knowing and getting used to setting up quickly.

Funnily enough, I've used a dial indicator quite a bit to check shaft end play and bearing movement. I'd love to see any tips/tricks though!

@six5crèéd I hope you enjoyed your popcorn! Enough shop time for me, I'm headed home. 15 hours is a long enough Friday.

@tacotoe thank you very much for all the assistance. I honestly wouldn't have had this good of a result without the help.

Also a big thank you to everyone who chipped in (hah) and gave advice/tips. I'm sure I'll have more questions and pictures in the future to entertain you all. Out of curiosity, did this remind anyone of their first times running a lathe?

The lathe I ran was gorgeous and an absolute behemoth. I wish I remembered who made it, I tried finding pictures of it with no luck.

Pretty spot on! Once you pick up that feeling for it, it’s a lot of fun to be able to crank out little projects like that.

All I recall of my first lathe project was after I was done and cleaned up the lathe the toolmaker dude who was giving me guidance said pretty good but here's what that lathe should look like when your done. He just wiped the ways down a little better and applied some oil to them. Just messing with me. He was quite a smartass but in his own right a very gifted toolmaker. And hustler...he trick me into arm wrestling him for lunch. After he beat me, he confessed he'd won several competitions. I should have slapped him around in the parking lot after work lol

Any time @BananaMan , be glad to help or anyone else around here. I think we all like to share our knowledge. It's a dying trade, at least the manual portion of it. Seems to me anyway

my first time running the manual lathe I was turning down 3.5” plastic to fit in the collet of our small CNC lathe. Pretty simple and hard to mess up, just us to take about .05 off of one end about .5 back.

had to do a rush job yesterday and the only material we had was 3.5” round and I needed 2x2 square. Quick little program and I had what I needed.

It reminded me of the things I faced when I started, I’ve never been to school for machine work but I learn better hands on anyway. Awesome job you did and like @tacotoe said, things get easier as time goes by
