I just took on a new job which will require me to take a lot of road trips around New England ie., going to spend a lot of time in my Tacoma. I'll be taking 3-4 weekend trips a month during certain times of the year. I'm actually looking forward to the drives. So, what gadgets, tech, accessories, etc. would you get to make it more pleasant or enjoyable?

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
I haven't tried them but I've been looking at the Seat Jackers. Heard good things, but I've had no issues with multiple 5 hour drives in a week without. Still need to loosen the seat and put a few blocks of wood under the front to see if I like the angle.

Edit - pretty sure your 21 has a power seat so these might be useless.

    Dynamat/Dynaliner/Dynapad the whole cab.

Eventually you'll find out you get burned out on music and movies and whatever else gizmos, and you want to enjoy some quiet, that's when you realize just how loud Tacoma is. Especially when you start modifying and put big tires and lift and accessories and armor etc etc.

Beyond that I recommend getting a good BT OBD2 reader, and a ram ball mount for an old phone that you can leave in the truck connected to the Bluetooth OBD2 reader and a nice app like torque Pro so you can monitor things like fuel economy, mileage, get heads up on any kind of abnormal sensor alerts for pending check engine lights and such. And if you ever do have a check engine light, you'll know what the problem is before the tow truck even shows up, May even give you enough information to realize that something simple that you can fix on the side of the road.

This is not for comfort or entertainment but Id suggest a clear, paint protection film, for road crap. Drove 9 hours back home to see my parents and still got some minor, front-end road rash, but it did help immensely. Could have been worse.

I've thought about those. I do have the power seats. So that makes the seat jackers unnecessary?

That's a good idea about the Dynamat. I did parts of my doors when I replaced my speakers and have enough left to do the back behind the seats. I drove around with the seats down once and it's so loud. I'll definitely do this.

Do you have any recommendations on a good BT OBD2 reader? I took a look on Amazon and there's a lot to choose from that seems to have good ratings.

I've got the sound system covered. Just put in a new sub this week and replaced all of the speakers a few months ago. Definitely going to sound proof the cab.

I looked into that as well. Also thinking about getting a good cooler like a Yeti soft topper.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Unless the truck is needed to fulfill the job, I'd look for something like a lightly used older Avalon and leave the truck at home.

At least for non snow days.

I really like my dashboard phone mount. Puts the phone in the right place which is really handy when driving a lot and utilizing GPS, playing tunes…

I’ll second this. Drove from Pittsburgh to Acadia National Park Maine this summer. It’s the first time I experienced seat discomfort which caused my right leg to feel “crampy”. Installed the seat jackers which really helps by changing the angle of the seat position.

Already have the TP in there. I learned the hard way a few years back on a trip from Portland to Chicago.

I definitely want to do this. Looks like there's one guy near Boston that can do it.
