Having read through most of the 252 pages I might have a small idea on whats going on.
I have an 09 DCSB. And it sounds like I can get the 6112's but do not go over 2" as it will change the geometry of the cv axles. Correct? Do I have them set #3 or #4? #4 put me over the 2" mark.
I can keep the OEM UCA but it seems like it would be better if I changed them now. Correct?
Then what about the taco lean? Back in 2014 or so it seemed like the way to go was to add 1/4 or 3/8" spacer on the drivers side. Now it seems like that is a bad idea. Where exactly does that stand?
My frame, LCA and leaf springs and break lines were replaced last year by Toyota so I was going to wait on the 5120's. I replaced the original Bilstein's with the same last year. I figured because I would already have the front end torn apart it would be better to replace the UCA at that time.
Does this sound like the way to go? I am not big into off roading but considering everything I have read that putting the 6112's on is the way to go.

Thanks in advance.. Cant wait to get started.

Just from my perspective which may differ from others.

Unless the UCA is worn, you should be able to obtain very good alignment specs (I was able to get better than stock caster) if you stay less than 2" of lift.

Make sure you get the 6112s that are specific for the Gen2.

2" and under will provide less adverse wear to the CV boots, especially the inner boots

For Gen 3, the clip positions are staggered to reduce the Taco lean.. example 5 and 4 clip position. Assume this is similar for Gen 2

The 6112s in the front will offer a tremendous improvement for pavement use besides the improvement on the dirt side of the equation.

    What about the spacers?

If you stagger the clip position on the Bilstein dampener (as suggested by Bilstein) you should minimize the Taco lean. A staggered clip position increases lift on one assembly over the other.

Alternatively, those seeking maximum lift and using the top clip positions on the Bilstein dampener have added a small 1/8" shim on top to gain a 1/4" additional lift.

Isn’t that for the 3rd gen?

    yes it is

but here are the install directions for the 2nd gen (page 2 lists ride height for circlip position) seems you could add a 1/8" spacer on the the one side if you have the Taco lean (guessing). You would want to check full droop on this side to ensure there is no interference with the spring hitting the UCA..

I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to stagger the clip positions with the 2nd gen to correct a 1/2" of Taco lean .... maybe a 2nd gen owner could comment..

2nd vs 3rd gen.....different animals. I have mine set at 2 1/4" and I am still fine with the cv axles. Even at 2.5" your are bordering the "ok" mark.

With your 2nd gen dcsb with no armor and 600lb springs, #3 = about 1.90" after settling and #4 = about 2.15" after settling.

You really won't need an aftermarket uca until 2.5" buuuuut it is easier to install all at once and there really is no downside to getting one anyway.

3rd gens were really made to have the offset numbers. Some guys with second gens did it as well. I have had a 1/4" spacer on my 2013 driver's side for 4 years now without fail. Easier to change the spacer for fine tuning then take apart the shock and change the setting....just my 2 cents.

    Yes, no downside

This set up might get you out there.

Just so I am clear, You are saying set the drivers side on #4 and the passengers side to #3? I thought that set up was for 3gen only. Headstrong sells the 1/4" spacer with the 6112 if you choose to add it.

    Thanks

I'd ask headstrong about that suggestion and find out if they also recommend it.

Before calling them take accurate measurements of how your front currently sits and advise if you even have any Taco lean. Center of hub to bottom of fender or you can measure from the top of the rim lip to the bottom of fender for comparison and more accuracy of any difference.

Again, if you go spacer on top of assembly make sure you get full droop and ensure that the spring does not contact the UCA. Also make sure on full compression that your dampener is not the travel limiter and that your bump stop is.

This is where you have to check for interference with spring and UCA if you add a spacer.

I do not have a spacer in these photos but there is very little clearance at full droop.

When you add a spacer it allows more droop and the control arms will go down further. When the UCA drops down more it gets closer to the coil spring or hits the coil spring.

Ok, Thanks..I was also going to get new UCA. SPC Ball Joint Upper Control Arms
Just because they are original with 180K miles on them. The LCA have been replaced by Toyota about a year or so ago.

You still should confirm no interference with the new UCA with a spacer on top of the coil assembly and that the shock doesn't bottom before the bump stop.

I have the exact same question on the 650lb springs, same notch. Just ordered Eibach springs. Currently have 600lb springs on notch 4/5 taco sits exactly 37in wheel to fender on both sides. 5in wheel gap, looks almost stock with bigger tires. I am rubbing pretty bad on the cab with my -12 RRWs on 285/17 nittos. Hopping that going up a notch along with adding 650lb springs will give me an extra 1in to 1.25in. Anyone who has feedback on ride quality and lift that would be epic.

Quick question on notches. Was going with 55and 6 when I receive my 6112s and I'm aware some use 1/4" spacer for taco lean. Could you essentially set the driver's at 6 with a 1/4" spacer on drivers side and 6 on the passenger and acheive more lift ? In theory it ought to work although I haven"t heard this being attempted.
