    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Not 1st Gen Tacoma, but my kid's 3rd Gen T4R is close enough to the same thing. lol

First thing we noticed when we started on Robert's truck today was the brake line was too short.

And I should have known that. I would say I'm a dumbass for not remembering this. But I'm not a dumbass... this is why I told him to get a 3rd Gen T4R... because I have spare parts

+3 @Wheeler's Off-Road Inc brake line. I didn't end up needing it because I'm running a +6 line in back.

Got everything else disconnected. Dropped the axle and pulled the coils.

Thinking he's gunna have a bit of rake till we get a rear swingout on here, and hang the spare off the back.

Cleaned up the panhard brackets to prep for welding in @eimkeith relocate kit.

Front diff oil change, Transfer Case oil change, transmission oil change. Plus replaced a few cracked old hoses. I didn't pull the rear diff out as suggested but tomorrow I will be pulling the drive shaft off to do the center support bearing and the u-joints. I suppose I will pull the rear diff out then.

What coils did you guys use? We put the OME soft ones in the back of my son's. It rides really nice but there not gonna hold any weight.

It's not difficult, but a pain in the ass. You've got to pull the axles to pull the diff. And.... might as well replace the seals and possibly bearings if they are original. At least that's usually my though process, which always leads me down a path of craziness

They ride good. But he has no weight back there. So his truck is going to have quite a rake till we do his rear bumper, and add some weight back there.

They are specifically for lift + added weight.

Don't forget the gears and locker since you have it out and open anyways. Because let be honest who wants to pull it a second time. Oh it's also way easier to change the motor mounts with the diff out.

Also, finally got my son's T4R legal.

Replaced the Cat with a Walker Evens cat. Legal for CA install on his truck. Has a CA Executive Order number for most 3rd Gen 4 Runners and some 1st Gen Tacomas.

    Around 400 bucks from Summit.

    Totally.

And sounds like a good time to do a refresh on the drums. Well shit time to do u joints as well.

    Edit
I'm pissed I didn't do the mounts when I pulled the front, but I went down that rabbit hole of since I'm in there and spent way too much time at the time doing other things. I think the truck was out of commission for over a month.

What does everyone use for tailgate handle locks? The only one I could find is the Pop & Lock and it doesn’t have very good reviews.

I’m finally installing my old SnugTop Tonneau on the truck. Had to do some fiberglass work, and tomorrow I’m doing base coat + clear coat. I’m too cheap to buy another quart of Metallic Black, so it’s getting painted Mercedes-Benz Tiefscwartz which I had leftover from my E320.

Also, commercial clothing racks are really good Tonneau cover dollies lol

When you close and lock the cover it will make it inposable (within reason) to open the tail gate.

That’s good to know - just wanted to make sure I don’t get anything stolen haha. What did you use for locks on the tonneau?

All of this is why I doubt I do anything with the diff until next spring. Yes the 1/4" of gear tooth stuck to my plug is a bit worrisome. But it's not a daily driver. I am going to take it on a handful of hunting trips starting next weekend so I will hope for the best on those.
Next spring I think I am going to do an Eaton Trutrack and a Yukon ring and pinion. Right now time and money are not on my side for any of that so I will take care of what I can now and upgrade in the future.

I had a cap for a while, also made by SnugTop. Wasn't a huge fan of the lack of visibility, so I gave it away.

Plus where I live the windows would be broken in (5) minutes if I left anything in the bed.
