Age catches up to them more than anything. With a higher mileage vehicle it's always a good idea to make a habit out of checking once a week or so.

I check all 3 vehicles on the weekends and/or before long trips, etc.

After a quick test drive we determined that it does indeed rub on the outer fenders. Time to roll!

I get lazy. Whenever I do (or did) check, it was always spot on. I don't think it's ever registered as "low".

My horn stopped working on the 2nd Gen just before my registration expired. Had to cough up $25 under the table for a ghetto mechanic shop to certify my vehicle.

I should’ve just kept my mouth shut, because the mechanic was drinking beers with his buddy… he just glanced at my insurance, verified my VIN, and printed the inspection paper. I doubt he would’ve actually done a real inspection like he’s supposed to.

What's all this Vin verification stuff? I thought they were just supposed to scrape the old sticker and put on the new one

Here in Texas, you take your vehicle to get inspected by a mechanic and he’ll print out a paper stating your vehicle passed. You then take that paper to the DMV or HEB grocery store to pay and receive your registration paper and sticker. Flat rate $7 inspection fee, and $80 fee for registration and sticker. I have custom plates so it’s an extra $30 on top of the $80.

    Damn, that's an interesting one.

Here in Pennsylvania we just go to our local mechanic and they go over it and put on a new sticker if you "pass"

I needed to take a shower after the "inspection" on the beater last time. Registration is up in February so it'll get registered as a "Classic" to avoid all that crap. Hell, I'm gonna see if I can get it registered as a "Street Rod"

Taxation is theft. The sales taxes I paid when I bought my truck should cover registration for the entirety of my ownership IMO.

Agreed. They're trying to drum up a tax here in PA based on your annual mileage. This is due to EV's not paying their fair share of the gas tax. However this totally fucks over a guy like me who lives in a rural area and has to travel a ways for work. Spring time I'm probably gonna be looking at homes closer to work in Maryland to avoid that bullshit. Id rather not be in MD due to their liberal BS, but it is what it is.
