Hi everyone. I am currently doing wheel bearings on my 96 4x4 for the first time and I have run into a couple issues that I could really use some advice on. After pressing the wheel bearing out I noticed that the inside of the steering knuckle on the passenger side is pitted and gouged. This isn't a job I have done before so I am not sure what to do about it if anything. If anyone has any advice on what I should do here I would really appreciate it. I'm hoping to avoid replacing the knuckle if possible. Thanks for any help.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Some times pictures don`t show as well as in person .

    Best guess!!

Really looks like someone tried to get the bearing out with a punch and chisel .

If you can get the bore smooth the punch marks should not hurt so a new bearing can be pressed in without causing damage

thanks, I had the same thought, I think I am just going to try to smooth it down with some fine sand paper.

    OP,
I agree with the above post. No sweat. Just smooth the high spots in the bore of the knuckle with emery cloth, maybe even use a Dremel on the really high spots then press your new bearing in using plenty of grease. I had to redo the front wheel bearings on my '97 TACO last month because the last shop pressed the bearings in backwards. The metal shield side of the bearing goes towards the hub/the outside of the knuckle/towards the snap ring. For me, the hardest thing to figure out was the stack configuration for correctly supporting the inner bearing cone while pressing the hub. My post may be of value to you: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-97-v6-taco-4wd-5-speed-w-manual-hubs.730983/. HTH & good luck!
